Clover Park Technical College (Photography)
After teaching myself basic camera functions and black & white darkroom skills, I attended a two year photography school and added lighting, color processing and printing as well as large format photography to my self taught skills.
I worked as a photojournalist in the military for over 30 years shooting stories, processing and printing from film (and eventually post processing digital images) and performing the layout and design of magazine pages.
In more recent years, I taught newer journalists to use their digital cameras more effectively, how to control exposure, effects of different focal length lenses and good download and storage processes.
I also taught use of Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom and RAW file processing as well as Photoshop Elements.
I believe a photographer must learn to see their surroundings before they can properly photograph their surroundings and they must know their equipment and how to properly use it so they are setting the functions and not letting them be randomly selected.
Practice makes perfect only if you are practicing the proper technique. It is my goal to help others acquire the proper techniques that will help them grow as a photographer and an artist. Teaches at student's ability. I can get everything I need in a few lessons and follow ups. He's a fellow photographer, not a graphic arts major, so we can relate.
David taught me what I was asking for which was how to use my camera for my specific needs. He made it easy to ask him to repeat or explain something in a different way so that I could understand. He was professional yet personable which made him approachable. Also, he helped me gain confidence as a photographer and bring the fun out of the activity while decreasing my anxiety in learning and reviewing photography.
David took a lot of extra time when helping me with my Lightroom issues. He suggested a good workflow for me and I am working on straightening out my Lightroom folder mess.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I started using Lightroom when it was still very new and took a class to get started. I have since added over 100,000 photos to my Lightroom Catalog. I use it for my RAW file editing and to organize and search/sort through my photographs.
I completed a two year photography course at Clover Park Technical College and worked as a photojournalist for the military over 30 years. I taught basic photography in an evening course at Clover Park Vo-Tech for 10 years. I have used Photoshop for post processing for over 15 years and Lightroom for about 5 years.
