Hello! My name is Mrs. Spaulding. I am an educator in the greater Tacoma and Puyallup area. I earned my high school diploma from Annie Wright Schools, which is an International Baccalaureate school. After high school, I attended the University of Washington in Tacoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. During that time, I worked as a tutor at the university and at the local Sylvan Learning Center, where I found my passion for teaching.

I soon returned to the University of Washington to pursue my teaching career, and graduated with a master’s of Education with an English Language Learners endorsement. As of right now, I am a certificated teacher with over 5 years of classroom experience at the Elementary level. I have had the privilege of working with ELL students in the Tacoma school district.

I specialize in developing English language proficiency in receptive and expressive language. I help students build the academic language they need to be successful throughout their entire academic career. Students will build the language they need to comprehend their learning through reading and listening (receptive language) and communicate that learning through speaking and writing (expressive language). Though most of my experience is with K-5, I am capable of teaching students at every level of their academic careers. My preferred subject areas include English language arts, English as a second language, and writing. I can help students with homework, test prep, writing, and reading.

I prioritize building relationships, agency, and initiative with my students. I help my students develop these skills through clear communication of learning expectations, goal setting, and reflection. A typical session would involve reviewing learning expectations, creating a learning target for the day, a quick reflection of learning at the end, and setting goals for our next session.

If you are interested in working with me, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to growing with you!
