Hello, my name is Patrick. I graduated Cum Laude with a physics degree and graduate certificate in applied mathematics from Kansas State University. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics at Washington State University. I have tutored through various private companies, as a one on one personal tutor, and through the University since 2016.

In addition to my tutoring, I have done research with Mitsubishi Electric Engineering Labs. My research interests include topological data analysis, computational geometry, and graph theory.

During this time, I have tutored or taught Geometry, Algebra, College Algebra, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Abstract Algebra, Group Theory, Proofs, Real and Complex Analysis, Topology, Linear Programming, Statistics, Probability, Python, High School Physics, College Physics, Engineering Physics, Electromagnetism, Advanced Classical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics.

When tutoring these topics, I try to focus on how to relate the content covered in a given class to topics the student might find interesting. I often find students learn abstract math better when they have plenty of concrete examples to look back at.

For students interested in poker, I am also happy to teach a mathematical approach to poker. I tend to play with a GTO mindset. I am a winning low stakes player.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have a physics degree and a math minor. I have tutored this class for the last 7 years.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a physics degree and a math minor. I have been tutoring highschool and college math for the past 7 years, and I used math frequently with my physics research and data analytics.
Calculus

Calculus

I used calculus in all my physics courses and in most of my advanced math classes. I have tutored calculus at various levels for the past 6 years.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I have done previous research with Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs where I have designed algorithms for 3D printers. In addition, I have taught a course in mathematical computing at the college level. In my own research, I have implemented topological data analysis algorithms, path planning algorithms, and numerical methods.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

When I took Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) I received an A. In my Partial Differential Equations (PDE) class I have also received an A. Since then, I have tutored both classes for the better part of four years. I regularly used topics from both classes when I was involved with research, and I use topics from both courses when doing advanced physics (Electromagnetism, Quantum Mechanics, and Advanced Classical Mechanics).
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have used discrete math in programming and in previous research. I have also used the concepts from discrete math for my graduate coursework in math. I use graphs frequently for optimization problems. I feel comfortable tutoring any undergraduate level discrete math course. I have tutored students in network optimization, combinatorics, and set theory in the past.
Finite Math

Finite Math

I have done research in topics related to finite mathematics, including graph theory, Markov processes, and combinatorics. In addition, I have tutored all of the typical topics in a finite mathematics course over the years. These include the typical matrix operations, linear programming, finite probability spaces, and permutation/combination problems.
Geometry

Geometry

I currently do research involving geometry and have used geometry in my research or in my classes since 2012.
GRE

GRE

I scored a 169 on the Quantitative Reasoning section, a 160 on the Verbal Reasoning section, and a 5 on the Analytical Writing section.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

This is my favorite course to tutor, and in the past two years I have tutored 20-30 separate students in Linear Algebra alone (through private tutoring and in person tutoring). In addition, I used linear algebra a lot in my advanced physics and math courses as well as in my optics research.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I have five years experience tutoring music theory at a college level. I have played guitar for 11 years, have played in multiple jazz bands, a regionally touring metal band, multiple rock bands, and in a blues band.
Physics

Physics

I graduated with a physics degree in May 2020. I have tutored introductory college level physics since fall of 2014. I have also tutored more advanced topics over the years, and at this point I have tutored all of the physics classes an undergraduate physics major will usually take (Classical Mechanics, Special relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, and Thermodynamics) at one point or another. On top of this, I also have a year of experience working in an optics lab, and can relate knowledge from physics courses to research.
Poker

Poker

I have played Texas Hold 'Em for years and other variations (such as 4 Card Omaha, 7 Card Stud, and Crazy Pineapple) for about 5 years. In addition to playing these games, I also understand the math behind the games and I can help you use math to improve your poker game.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have tutored this course since Fall 2014 (My Junior year of high school). I used topics from precalculus in every single math and physics course I took in college. I regularly use topics from this course when doing data analysis as well.
Probability

Probability

I have tutored 15 students or so in probability and statistics over the years. I also use probability for my own poker calculations, combinatorics proofs, and data analytics.
Real Analysis

Real Analysis

Previously, I have run review sessions for the graduate qualifying exam in real analysis. These reviews prepared math PhD students to pass their qualifying exams in real analysis. These exams require a graduate level understanding of real analysis. In addition, I have tutored a few students in real analysis over the years.
Statistics

Statistics

I have tutored statistics since the Summer of 2018. I have used statistics with data science and physics as well.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I have tutored trigonometry for the past seven years, and I use trigonometry regularly with my physics degree.
Prealgebra

Patient, knowledgeable, easy to work with

Patrick helped me learn physics 2 and pass my summer course over 6 weeks. He was very patient and will take the time to make sure you understand something if you don't. Even when it's hard to explain, he will take the time to find a way that makes sense to you. I would usually study a bit before the tutoring sessions and send him what I wanted to work on at least an hour ahead of time, and he would be ready to talk about all of it. I would definitely recommend him if you want to get a good score in physics.

Patient and Knowledgeable

Patrick met with my son yesterday for their first review. He told me that without Patrick's help, he was sure he would have scored a 63%. After one lesson a 77% and now after two lessons an 84%. One more lesson before the test but my son is now LOOKING FORWARD to his final!

Good Topology learning session.

Helpful insights and learning in Topology, compared and contrasted to other methods to describe shapes and surfaces, etc. Patrick is patient and a good teacher. I look forward to further learning based on his recommendations.

Excellent tutor, highly recommend.

Patrick was great, and clearly explained everything I needed to learn about probability. He was easy to ask questions of, and made sure I understood what he was going over. I highly recommend him. And for context, some of the stuff we went through continuous probability: finding probability destiny functions, cumulative distribution functions, finding variance, standard deviation and more. We also went through normal distribution using a z-table and how to calculate multiple probabilities. He knew everything. Highly recommend.

Super patient and excellent tutor

Patrick was extremely patient as well as flexible in what I wanted to cover in our sessions. I felt that I got a lot better grasp of the material going over problems with him and the examples he would give. He helped me a lot with my grade in class as well as passing my exam. He is an excellent tutor and I would recommend him to anyone.

Thoughtful, patient, and helpful

I spent 2 hours learning how to play poker with Patrick. It was a fantastic experience, and I went from a complete newbie who got crushed in every casual game to a respected competitor at the table. Patrick wasn't afraid to slow down and help me think through how to analyze hands, outs, and odds. The lessons basically paid for themselves :)

Very helpful and awesome at what he does! Went above and beyond in helping me!

Patrick is knowledgeable and goes above and beyond standard tutoring to help you understand. He helped me with math in a format that I can better understand (i.e., python code).
