Whatever your assignment, my goal is to help lower the stakes by demystifying the writing process. I'm here to hold your hand through it all--from that first spark of inspiration to a final draft.

I'm also a fiction writer and an instructor of Creative Writing at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a BA in English Literature from the University of Chicago. While at SMU, I've had the pleasure of teaching three sections of English 2390: Introduction to Creative Writing, a hybrid workshop course that focuses on the fundamentals of fiction for which I've received excellent student evaluations.

While my expertise lies in creative writing, I also have experience teaching college composition courses. During my graduate studies at the University of Illinois, I taught seven sections of Rhetoric 105: The Principles of Writing and Research. Based on student evaluations, I was consistently ranked in the top 10% of English Faculty at the university.

I also have two years' experience as a high school English and AP Literature teacher at Ross School in East Hampton, NY.

Game changer - don't miss an opportunity to work with Amelia!!!

Working with Amelia has been an absolute game-changer in preparing for the SAT reading section. Her teaching style is both engaging and effective, breaking down complex passages and questions into manageable, understandable parts. She has a remarkable ability to tailor her approach to fit the student's learning style, making each session feel personalized and productive. One of the things we appreciated the most is her patience. She is calm, encouraging, and willing to explain things in different ways until they clicked. Her flexibility is another standout quality. She was incredibly accommodating with scheduling, even adjusting sessions around my daughter’s busy school and extracurricular calendar. Whether it was a last-minute review or a weekend session, she made it work without hesitation. Overall, Amelia is not just a tutor—she’s a mentor and a cheerleader. Her support and expertise have made a huge difference in my daughter’s confidence. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to boost their SAT reading score with a tutor who truly cares and delivers results.
