Hi, my name is Colin. As a Ph.D. candidate in Molecular Bioscience at Washington State University, I've dedicated my career to understanding how theoretical science translates into real-world applications. This passion is the driving force behind my tutoring philosophy: to help students transform complex information into clear, practical knowledge. I hold an Associate’s degree (GPA > 3.95) from Olympic College, a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Northwestern College (GPA > 3.85), and I’m currently a 5th-year graduate student at Washington State University working to get my Ph.D. in Molecular Bioscience with a NIH-supported certification in protein biotechnology. As an undergraduate, I served as a peer-tutor for 1.5 years in chemistry, biology, and English. Similarly, I have TA’d three semesters of independent lab sections for introductory college biology.
I try to apply my background to my tutoring philosophy: convert theoretical knowledge and information into applied, concrete understanding. For example, I don’t just teach the steps of a chemical reaction; I explain why it matters in a real-world context, like how it’s used to develop a new medicine. I am happy to provide extra examples, analogies, or clarification to better facilitate student understanding.
My experience as both an undergraduate peer tutor and a graduate-level TA has given me a versatile skill set. I am equally comfortable providing focused, one-on-one instruction for a specific homework question or exam preparation as I am breaking down a complex topic for a larger group. This means I can quickly adapt my approach to fit your unique learning style and needs.
I am passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals. Whether you need help with a specific class or want to strengthen your foundational skills, I welcome the opportunity to work with you. Please feel free to schedule a free consultation to discuss how I can help you succeed!"
