Hello, my name is Alizul R, but my students affectionately know me as "Ms. Zee." I hold a master's degree in the art of teaching from Northwest Nazarene University where I graduated with a 4.0 gpa and won the "Student Teacher of the Year" award for my class. Additionally, I hold a bachelor's degree in political science and history from the University of California, Merced. During my time in undergrad, I engaged in an internship semester in Washington DC, as well as a study abroad program in Brazil. I enjoy traveling, reading, commercial fishing and I am fluent in Spanish.
I currently hold active teaching certificates in Alaska, Washington, and Idaho. The credentials are for grades K-5 all subjects, and social studies/history for grades 5-9. I also have a general love for math and specific training in reading intervention programs which focus on the Science of Reading. I have six years of experience in the classroom; working with students in whole group, small group, and one-on-one interventions. I have worked with students ages 3-13 in different contexts and subjects, but primarily with reading and math. I also have some experience working with students in special education.
My goal when working with students is to empower them through skill building as it relates to perseverance, reasoning, strategic tools, and utilizing patterns. I believe I am a very encouraging and compassionate teacher, yet structured with my time and lessons so that student's stay engaged through out the session. I enjoying learning about my student's strengths and challenges, as well as their likes and dislikes to tailor options to their interests.
