Hello! My name is Dustin, and I have a passion for learning and helping others realize their potential. Throughout school and during my engineering career, tutoring and mentoring others have gone hand-in-hand with my own growth. I strongly believe in giving back when you can, and that is why I am thrilled to be here.

While pursuing my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (2013), I worked for three years in a tutoring center supporting students ages 17–50 in arithmetic through Calculus III, as well as pre- and calculus-based physics. I also provided one-on-one tutoring for a high school student in AP Calculus BC and a college student taking Calculus I & II. These experiences strengthened both my technical understanding and my ability to adapt to different learning styles.

More recently, I have continued tutoring across a wide range of ages and goals. In 2025, I supported a high school AP Physics student and a college student rebuilding algebra skills as she returns to school to pursue a new degree, using IXL to reinforce fundamentals and track progress. In 2026, I tutored two 6th grade students, one 4th grade student, and a college student in algebra-based physics. I also have experience working with students with ADHD and autism, and I strive to adjust pacing and communication, so each student feels comfortable and supported.

As a nuclear test engineer (2013–2023), I mentored engineers-in-training preparing for milestone oral examinations and provided guidance on technical and professional topics including fluid systems, heat transfer, and system design.

My core tutoring principles remain consistent: learning can feel vulnerable, so I prioritize listening and patience. I communicate honestly, approach challenges with humility, and encourage students to take the lead whenever possible so they build confidence and independence. My goal is not only to help students solve today’s problems, but to equip them with skills and confidence that last well beyond our sessions.

As a mechanical engineer, I apply algebra almost daily in applications such as electric circuits using Ohm's Law, calculating bulk coil temperatures for solenoid coils, solving flow capacity equations for compressible flow, regulating heaters, and post-processing of data.

From 2013 to 2023, I oversaw the design, fabrication, use, and disposal of radioactive test equipment in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. From 2023 to present, I devise test plans, execute testing, and compile reports for rocket engine component development and qualification campaigns.

As a mechanical engineer working in the nuclear power industry (2013-2023), I performed fluid simulations, analyzed hydrostatic water systems, and designed temporary systems to maintain and test active nuclear reactor systems. As a mechanical engineer working at an aerospace company (2023-present), I solve physics problems daily to support the development and qualification of flight hardware. These problems include topics such as force balance, compressible fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, spring-mass systems, electric circuits, and magnetism and electromagnetism.

Knowledgeable and Patient

Dustin has been helping me since winter quarter in physics, and he single-handedly saved me from failing the class. His style is very hands-on, which allows me to learn from my mistakes and understand the concepts on a deeper level rather than just memorizing formulas.
