I hold a PhD in Biology with a research emphasis in evolution, genomics, bioinformatics, and statistics. I teach at the undergraduate & post-graduate levels as well as model STEM curriculum for high and middle school. Teaching is my passion, and I make my interest in the topic infectious to students. I am skilled at summarizing content and making it easier for students to digest and grasp quickly.

As a scientific researcher, quantitative skills are required. I enjoy sharing my love of quantitative reasoning with students, which includes: statistics, biostatistics, data science, data visualization, and various topics in biology (bioinformatics, botany, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, evolution, genetics, and general bio). In addition to these topics, I teach programming skills in the following areas: R & R Studio, Tableau, SPSS, Excel, introductory C++ and Python, SQL and databases, and Unix / shell scripting.

I am especially keen to help students with test anxiety or those with diagnosed learning or other disabilities. Throughout the years, I have worked with students with ADD/ADHD, autism, oppositional defiant disorder, dyslexia, total blindness, hearing loss, and physical disabilities. I love to empower students to be their best versions of themselves, regardless of how differently abled they are. As someone with multiple disabilities, I empathize deeply with these students.

Note:
I work often with MSDS students and data science micro Masters / certificate students from various programs, as well as MPH and Business Analytics students. Don’t hesitate to reach out to see if I can help you meet the expectations of your course!

Kind and patient tutor

My 16 year old loves working with Katherine. She has been able to help her this year with algebra/geometry 2 and Biology, it's so nice she can help with both. One time she even was able to do an appt with her very early before school to help her with an important assignment she was struggling with the night before. My daughter says she is very patient and kind, which is the perfect demeanor to help her understand these concepts.

#1 Tutor

Extremely knowledgeable. Realistic. Does not feed you the answers but does help you get to them. Only Tableau tutor I will ever go to again! Really appreciated that she researched things and was ready with answers to my questions. Friendly yet equally respectful of my time.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor.

I am pursuing a microbiology major with a focus on bioinformatics. I sought assistance not only in programming but also from someone with a scientific background to guide me in interpreting data and understanding its significance. She patiently explained every detail to me, recognizing that it takes me a bit longer to grasp concepts. She has been invaluable in helping me comprehend scholarly research articles and assisting with programming languages such as Python, Rstudio (R), and Unix command line. Overall, she is an exceptional science tutor capable of providing support across a wide range of topics.

Knowledgeable, patient, and kind tutor

Katherine is really kind and helpful and I would definitely recommend her if you need tutoring! She walked me through writing an R-studio script for a research paper, as well as walking me through how to write and structure a psychology research paper. Going into the tutoring session I didn't know anything about R-studio or the steps to write a research paper and by the end she gave me all the information I needed to leave confident in my knowledge. Katherine was extremely patient and understanding. I was confused by many things due to not having any experience, and she would reassure me that there was no problem going over material more or explaining things in depth if needed. She also explains material in a very clear and descriptive manner and walked me through each step one by one to be sure and cover all the material.

Katherine is well versed in R studio and statistics. I am a college sophomore taking statistics using R studio and she has been super helpful in my assignments. She knows exactly what to and it amazes me every time. She is also very kind and patient, I am impressed at how quickly she is able to fix my mistakes. She also answers my questions over email if I forget to ask it in the session which has been a lifesaver!
