The ability to express oneself provides greater confidence in all aspects of life.

I love working with non-native speakers. I have worked with people who want to improve their pronunciation skills for work and young students who want to speak English more confidently with their friends.

I first assess and work to improve the individual sounds that are difficult for the student to pronounce. I then teach the stress, emphasis and reductions that form the melody and rhythm of English. The goal is to help my students understand spoken American English and learn to speak more confidently, so they can improve their everyday conversations with co-workers and friends. I also work with people who want to improve their Business English, so they can be more successful at work. My lessons are individualized to each student's needs.

It is your hour, so tell me what your goals are, and I will try to help you reach them.

I have my Masters in Teaching Secondary English and a TESOL certification. I previously taught English for an international school and have been tutoring ESOL students for ten years.

English

I have a Master of Arts in Teaching English and my TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification. I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. My sessions focus on the students' needs, so I have helped high school students improve their English skills, college students complete their writing assignments and adults work on personal goals. I want my students to gain confidence and achieve the goals they have set for themselves.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have my Master of Arts in Teaching English and my TESOL certification. I love working with non-native speakers of all ages and abilities on their reading, writing, speaking and pronunciation skills.
Grammar

Grammar

I earned my B.A. in English from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York and my M.A.T. in Secondary English from the State University of New York at Cortland. I have taught GED preparation classes and tutored at-risk students at the community college level.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Since the goal of most writing is communication, I believe it is very helpful to have other people read your work to make sure your message is clear. I have been a member of a writing group for almost twenty years and have found the constructive criticism invaluable. Also, since it is easy for writers to miss small grammatical errors when they proofread their own work, it is always a good idea to have someone help edit it. I have my M.A.T. in Secondary English and have worked with people of all ages and abilities on all aspects of the writing process - focusing ideas, organizing, writing, revising and editing. I have also published some works of fiction.
Writing

Writing

I enjoy working with people who struggle to put their thoughts on to paper. I see writing as a process and find that breaking it down into individual steps allows the writer to focus and not be overwhelmed. I believe gaining confidence in expressing one's ideas in writing transfers to greater confidence in many areas of life. I have worked with people of all ages and abilities including at-risk students at the community college level, GED students, high school students and adults who are writing for personal reasons. I have my M.A.T. in Secondary English and have published some works of fiction.

Knowledgeable, great personality, patient, caring. Wonderful lady!

She is a great teacher because she made feel that I can really do this! gave me confidence and the desire to keep learning better pronunciation. Lots of experience with foreign speaking students . First lesson was mainly an assessment so she can concentrate in the areas where I need more help. I can't wait for my next lesson!.

Great experience

Sheila was great on following up in a timely manner. She also was able to work with my schedule. Also she was resourceful, although I was unable to use whiteboard she worked with me on the phone and was patient. She made sure I understood why something was grammatically incorrect. I definitely look forward to working with her again.
