Hello! I’m a business technologist with a passion for teaching. In 2022 I retired as a Finance Director from a software company after a successful business career. I have a degree in music education and a Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in technology and innovation management. I've also taught Business Education classes at a community college, receiving excellent reviews from both faculty and staff.

My tutoring experience has focused on Excel spreadsheets, SQL coding, and general computer studies. Learning tends to "sink in" through practical, hands-on experience, and we’ll address your specific objectives through a mix of direct instruction, Q&A, and practice time.

I look forward to hearing from you today, and helping you to improve your business technology skills!

Hello, I'm available to tutor in business subjects because of both work experience and education. I worked at the corporate offices of Fortune 500 companies for over 30 years, serving in Marketing, Financial Planning, Accounting, and other organizations. I've worked in the cell-phone, banking, and software industries. I have a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in Technology and Innovation Management, and I've taught Business Education courses at the community-college level.
Microsoft Excel,

Microsoft Excel

I've used Excel throughout most of my professional career and am considered an advanced user. I'm skilled at PivotTables, complex formulas, and charts, and I use VBA to automate Excel operations. Using Excel, I've built financial models, reconciled transactions, and prepared records for database uploads. I've taught Beginning Excel at a community college, and most of my tutoring experience so far has been in Excel.
Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word

Throughout my business career I've used MS Word to manage a variety of documents, including lengthy requirements documents, process and procedure documents, and correspondence. I've used Word to write several chapters of a technical tutorial. My Word skills include advanced formatting, the mail-merge utility, and track changes. I've also taught an Advanced Word class at the community-college level.

Computer

Microsoft Access,

Microsoft Access

I used Microsoft Access for many years on the job to automate processes too large for spreadsheets but too small for enterprise database servers. In one early example, I overhauled and maintained an Access database that served as the interface between the company's billing system and their general ledger. I've used Access to build similar standalone applications and to stage prototype queries during the development of SQL Server processes. Also, I've used Access to manage the mailing list for a local non-profit organization.

SQL,

SQL

I built and ran SQL queries for many years at work, I've taught colleagues how to use SQL, and I've written a SQL tutorial. My expertise in SQL includes subqueries, a variety of joins, complex CASE statements, calculations, temp tables, and pivots. I'm competent in T-SQL (for SQL Server) and MySQL, and I've coded in Oracle and Netezza too. Most of my queries pull data using SELECT, but I'm also comfortable writing Data Definition and Data Manipulation commands.

Great Tutor

With Bill's knowledge and assistance through mentoring and coaching I was able to obtain a 99.7 in Bellevue college course BUSIT 103 SQL Fundamentals. I couldn't have done this with out his HELP!

Patient, Knowledgeable, Results Oriented

I am not a person who understands the logic of Excel functions and formulas and, where the teacher just kind of expects you to move on your own, I needed more help. Bill explains the functions, and makes it so easy. I didn't quite get it at first because I am a repetition type of learner, so Bill created a spreadsheet to help me understand and focus on the concepts. I am a student who needs resources and patience, and I have found Bill is a tutor who wants you to walk away with knowledge and confidence. I rate Bill five stars on the two lessons we have had so far, I look forward to finishing this Excel class successfully with Bill's expertise.
