I'm available to tutor in business subjects because of both work experience and education. I worked at the corporate offices of Fortune 500 companies for over 30 years, primarily in the cell-phone, banking, and software industries. I held management and analyst roles within Marketing, Financial Planning, Accounting, and other organizations. I have a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in Technology and Innovation Management, and I've taught Business Education courses at the community-college level.

I used Excel throughout most of my professional career and am considered an advanced user. I'm skilled at PivotTables, complex formulas, and charts, and I've used VBA to automate Excel operations. Using Excel, I've built a variety of schedules, reconciled transactions, and prepared records for database uploads. I've taught Beginning Excel at a community college, and much of my tutoring experience has been in Excel.
SQL

SQL

I built and ran SQL queries for many years, taught colleagues how to use SQL, and wrote a SQL tutorial. My expertise in SQL includes subqueries, a variety of joins, complex CASE statements, temp tables, and pivots. I'm competent in SQL Server and MySQL, and I've coded in Oracle and Netezza too. Most of my queries pull data using SELECT, but I'm also comfortable writing Data Definition and Data Manipulation commands. I'm not a Database Administrator (DBA), so ERDs and design concepts (such as database constraints) aren't my strong suit; my primary expertise is in using queries to pull records.

I am not a person who understands the logic of Excel functions and formulas and, where the teacher just kind of expects you to move on your own, I needed more help. Bill explains the functions, and makes it so easy. I didn't quite get it at first because I am a repetition type of learner, so Bill created a spreadsheet to help me understand and focus on the concepts. I am a student who needs resources and patience, and I have found Bill is a tutor who wants you to walk away with knowledge and confidence.
