I hold master's degrees in Neuroscience and Human Nutrition and Exercise Physiology. I have substantial experience teaching college students, including serving as the instructor of record for nutrition and general health courses at Big Bend Community College. As a graduate teaching assistant, I also taught classes in nutrition, exercise physiology, and general physiology and led laboratory sessions. I regularly worked one-on-one with students to help them understand challenging concepts and develop practical skills.
I later worked as a research scientist at Washington State University, where I learned and applied statistics, probability, and R programming through study design, data analysis, statistical modeling, and interpretation of results. Mentoring and helping colleagues with statistics and laboratory methods were regular parts of my research work. I can tutor R, statistics, probability, biology, neuroscience, and nutrition. I have also written a book and educational materials on statistical methods in R and given presentations explaining complex scientific topics.
My teaching style is patient, collaborative, and focused on genuine understanding. I begin by finding out what a student already knows, where they're stuck, and what they need to learn. Then I break difficult topics into manageable pieces, connect them to real examples, and work through problems together. In R sessions, we'll write and debug code step by step while discussing the statistical reasoning behind it. My goal is for students to become more confident and independent, whether they're preparing for exams, learning a scientific concept, or tackling a data-analysis project.
