I have been teaching for 18 years. For the past 13 years, I have been an instructional coach; mentoring teachers in their classrooms on strong pedagogy, and designing and providing professional development for school and district level colleagues. With this position, came additional opportunities for training and personal professional growth.

I have tutored students in the past. In addition, I currently work with small groups of students who need extra support in reading and writing. I love teaching. It has been, and is, my passion.

As a team of instructional coaches in my district, 9 of us, we studied the CCSS in depth, as we wrote and revised the reading and writing curriculum that the entire district used for several years. As this team, we were also privy to additional training opportunities in this area. This training was a catalyst for professional development sessions we would design for our individual school buildings.

Furthermore, my partner and I ran data teams in my school building for all grades, K-5. During these weekly data team meetings, the CCSS were reviewed, assessed, and considered when taking next steps in instructional moves for teacher teams.

I had a great writing mentor throughout college who inspired my love of writing and the teaching of writing. I have worked in elementary education for 18 years. For the last 13 years, I have focused mainly on guiding the reading and writing professional development in my building. In addition, I continue to do so in my small group work with learners who need extra support.

I understand and have the tools for the progression of phonics skills.

I have studied spelling instruction outside of just memorizing spelling lists.

I love teaching! I believe every student can be successful with the right tools and the right amount of support and time.
