I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington with a BS in Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences (ACMS) and a BA in Japanese. I have some experience tutoring Calculus (I did half a dozen sessions tutoring Calculus I last summer before I got busy with classes again), and I have always enjoyed helping friends and strangers online with programming. In general I enjoy explaining things from first principles, be it math, programming, or Japanese grammar. I have passed the JLPT N3 Japanese exam and can teach elementary Japanese using the Genki I & II textbooks.
Even before college, programming has been a hobby for me that I've done for many years in various languages, and I'm excited to share this passion with students. I've used Java academically, and primarily Rust/JavaScript for fullstack personal projects. I've observed that many people studying computer science academically become overwhelmed and burn out, so I tend to approach teaching more broadly with a more practical focus, and I encourage everyone to try and do personal projects outside of coursework to really gain a love of programming.
