Experience:
I have 6 years of high school and college tutoring experience. Highly experienced and successful with Zoom tutoring. Online is my preference due to the ability to share my iPad screen with my students, and work out their problems on my own screen while they watch and participate from home. I am particularly experienced in thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, and acid-base chemistry--but enjoy and have tutored all levels of gen-chem.
I have tutored over 70 students over the years, 100% of whom have passed their course. I have helped multiple students improve from D's to A's, and many of those same students have gone onto graduate programs with higher level chemistry (medical school, vet school, etc).
In addition to tutoring, I have teaching experience at the university level in water chemistry (undergraduate) and environmental contamination (master's level).
Philosophy:
I love tutoring and working with students--it brings me so much joy to help students reach their 'Aha' moments with a difficult subject, and watch them build confidence as we work together. I work out problem sets in real time with my students (using my iPad) so they can see the strategies I use to approach different types of problems (especially in an exam context) to be successful. I like to make chemistry fun and implement many fun and creative analogies and pneumonics to help students remember difficult concepts. Chemistry is all around us, and the best way to learn is to use what we already know about the world around us to make connections.
