I received National Honor Society grant and graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in math. As part of my volunteer work for my local engineering association, I tutored my fellow students in Statics (math used to describe how stationary objects act on the environment) and Engineering Economy (business math). I would tutor students individually or in groups of 5 or less. I would make lesson plans based on the topics that the student needed help with....

I received National Honor Society grant and graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in math. As part of my volunteer work for my local engineering association, I tutored my fellow students in Statics (math used to describe how stationary objects act on the environment) and Engineering Economy (business math). I would tutor students individually or in groups of 5 or less. I would make lesson plans based on the topics that the student needed help with. But the first topic was always a review of the basic concepts necessary to understand the subject matter. I would refine the lesson plans based on the needs of the student. If the student had difficulty grasping a particular topic, I would use models and analogies to further explain the topic. The student had lots of time to practice the concepts with me and by themselves. I always gave the student a short summary of what was learned at each lesson and some positive feedback on their progress.

I passed the civil engineering licensing exam and became a licensed engineer. I passed the project management professional certification exam. I took the GMAT exam and completed my Master's degree in Engineering Management. As I progressed in my engineering career, I had to teach my staff how to design and construct facilities safely. I would teach my staff individually or in groups of 5 or less. I developed a lesson plan training manual for projects. The staff would have an opportunity to practice concepts on a fictitious project before doing the work on a real project. I utilized the "pause, prompt, and praise" technique to encourage my staff to learn. I received company kudos for my lesson plan manual and teaching skill.

During my MEM program, I excelled at engineering economics, where I learned how to analyze various case study companies and the actions of those companies from a financial viewpoint. I was able to analyze cash flows and rates of return for multiple alternatives and compare the annual worth of these companies for possible future investment. I performed benefit/cost analyses, including breakeven analyses, for various proposed projects and proposed company reorganizations. Throughout my MEM education, I was sought after as a tutor, mentor, and team member.

One of the rewards of tutoring elementary math is the light that shines on the student's face when understanding occurs. As a result, the student is motivated to learn more. Sometimes knowledge gaps happen during this process and can be uncovered by utilizing word problems. When the student grasps the hybrid concept of word problems, working with words and numbers to solve a question, a new skill is learned. The knowledge gap closes, and the future awaits.

At the prealgebra level everyone discovers what was not learned previously, whether it was factoring, multiplication tables, manipulating fractions, or grouping terms in an equation. Project Management

I have been tutoring and mentoring individuals and small conference groups since 2015. Some of the topics include the evolution of change and change management, project charter, project communication, risk determination and risk management, team building and issue management. I continually learn and sharpen my project management skills every year.
