I grew up hard of hearing in South Texas, losing most of my remaining hearing at 35. I earned a Master's in Special Education. For nine years, I taught language-deprived deaf students and those with multiple disabilities. My experience has made me an empathetic and patient language teacher.

I try to make ASL learning clear, engaging, and rooted in Deaf culture. We won't just learn signs; we'll explore different aspects of visual communication, facial expressions, and the rich history of the Deaf community.

Whether you're a beginner, looking to refine your skills, or preparing for an interpreting program, I'm here to guide you on your journey to being fluent in ASL and cultural understanding.

Best ASL teacher I've found on Wyzant!

I tried out a couple different tutors on Wyzant before ultimately choosing Robert. Since day one, our lessons have always run very smoothly and efficiently. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a lot of experience teaching a wide range of ages and levels, so no matter where you're at in your ASL journey, Robert will know how to help. I also really appreciate that he respects our time. We always begin on time and we don't run late, and because of this we are always able to make the absolute most of the hour.

Super great teacher!

Robert has been an incredible instructor, he is very patient and makes sure I learn the signs that interest me! He also gives a lot of insight into Deaf culture, etiquette, and interesting information about regional signs. I can’t recommend him enough!

A really awesome tutor. Have lots of good suggestions and sources for me to get the most out of my essay. Definitely recommended to anyone who needs someone to look over and review your essay.

Helpful!

Was very kind and helped me with everything I needed! We had a little connection problem in the beginning and he helped out in finding a solution and we got back on track (it was like no time was lost). Very satisfied
