Greetings, Travelers!
I’m Steven! With two years of mentoring and informal teaching experience, I aim to meet my students where they are. As a research ecologist, I have the background and knowledge to mentor science students at any level or type of institution. I’ve studied at traditional colleges and alternative schools as both a fresh and seasoned student. As a current student in pursuit of my PhD in Environmental and Natural Resource Science, and a recipient of four other degrees, I have the experience to simplify any step of the college process because I’ve been there.
My approach to teaching is inquiry-based and centers the student’s interests and needs as a source of curiosity and motivation. I help students with college prep, their assignments and with understanding how the planet works. I use real-world examples, real data, interactive maps, and field trips whenever possible to help students connect ideas and answer their own questions. Whether it’s editing a draft personal essay for college applications or an extra lecture on cellular energetics or ecology before the AP Bio exam – I aim to meet the student where they are to help them thrive!
I value your time as much as my own, and that’s why I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This allows me to manage my time effectively. As a full-time student, researcher, dad, husband, and now educator, I want you to get the most out of our time together. With that being said, I understand that emergencies happen, so exceptions will be made when issues are communicated. I’m open to any and all feedback and I’m very responsive, so don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or to schedule a lesson!
Cheers,
Steven Quick
