Hi, I'm Jacquelin!

First, a quick overview of my experience: I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's degree in Robotics. I currently work full time at Seattle University as the Mechanical Engineering lab manager. I've been teaching/tutoring since 2012 and have experience working with grades 4-12 and early college students, as well as both one-on-one and group instruction. I specialize in high school STEM and first-year college courses. My favorites are Pre-Calculus, Physics, and CAD (computer aided drafting).

I have a tremendous passion for sharing my interests in STEM with others. Whether it was tutoring freshman courses during college, teaching K-12 STEM during the pandemic, or working with my current "Intro to Machine Shop" college students, I have always considered my student's experience in class my number one priority. Especially in my one-on-one teaching, I made every effort to understand my students' unique needs and meet them halfway to give them the best academic experience possible. I have worked with students diagnosed with ADHD, students placed on the autism spectrum, and some students with delayed development.

My tutoring methods are centered around walking the student through what they already know and following the most logical next steps while helping to fill in any gaps. My lessons when teaching frequently involve something fun or hands-on while following the "I do, we do, you do" method. When lessons are conducted online, I like to find online simulations and games to help drive the lesson content home.

My availability is primarily on weekends and evenings. I have a strict attendance policy to ensure the best use of our scheduled time. Prior to lessons, I encourage my students to suggest specific resources or materials that work best for them. I am also happy to start with a free consultation to see if we are a good fit for one another.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or requests. I look forward to working with you!

Approved Subjects

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I completed a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2016, focusing on statics, dynamics, and robotics. Once I finished schooling, I entered industry as a contracted Mechanical Engineer on a research team at Microsoft. We specialized in researching and testing new technologies to determine if they could be used in future products. Since then, I have applied the design thinking process I learned in that environment to all of my jobs, both in engineering and teaching. Additionally, I have been able to provide interesting anecdotes whenever students or coworkers have had questions.
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

I have used Microsoft Windows since Windows 95, our family's first computer OS. I grew up with Windows and followed its evolution through OS versions as I studied STEM. As a result, I am familiar with a great deal of common functions, issues, commands, and troubleshooting methods. I feel confident I can navigate almost any issue or task proposed by an average user.
Solidworks

Solidworks

While studying Mechanical Engineering, I passed a test to become a Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP #C-8HRG6MP9T8). In the 10+ years since, I have used SolidWorks or another CAD program (Fusion360, OnShape, etc) consistently for my hobbies or my work. I have experience with finite element analysis (FEA) within Solidworks, creating large/multi-part assemblies, creating custom parts, and modifying existing models to better fit the design requirements. My models have been used for metal manufacturing and 3D printing in both my personal projects and past work experience.
