I've had a passion for Japanese language and culture for over 40 years. It all started when I enrolled in a Japanese class at Columbia University. Soon after, I changed my major to East Asian Studies and decided to spend a year studying in Japan. After graduating with my B.A., I spent five years working in Japan as a teacher, translator, and interpreter. Since returning to the US, I've worked for a number of Japanese companies using the Japanese language in various roles, including translator and software localizer. I have also devoted many years to learning Japanese martial arts and calligraphy. These activities have given me deeper insights into the culture. I recently passed the N1 level on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. N1 is the highest level of certification and demonstrates advanced mastery of Japanese.
I worked as a full-time teacher for over two years and I have also tutored individual students for over five years. I especially enjoy tutoring because I can get to know the student's specific needs and help them focus on their problem areas. I like to share my own experiences as a learner as well as insights about the language that are not found in any textbook.
Learning Japanese can feel like an uphill climb—I’ve been there too. But with the right approach and some guidance, you’ll find that eventually everything falls into place. I'm here to be your guide.
