I love mathematics, and I love helping students learn mathematics! I was homeschooled through high school and did not like math at all! My first college math class was wonderful - everything clicked, and I ended up changing my major to math. I graduated summa cum laude from Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I have been tutoring students for over 25 years.

I try to follow the student's goals and learning style as much as possible. Some students just want help with a few difficult problems. Some students want to place into college-level math on the COMPASS or Accuplacer exam. Other students need extra support getting through a high school or college math course. The student's goal becomes my goal as a tutor. If a student takes in information best by audio/visual, then I will do lecturing and explaining with a whiteboard. If they need to do the work themselves, I will "stand back" more and ask leading questions, helping a student find their own way.

A typical session lasts approximately an hour. Homework is assigned and graded by me if the student is learning independently. If the student is getting extra help through a class, homework their instructor has assigned will be used in sessions and between sessions for practice.

After having been homeschooled myself and then homeschooling my own daughter through high school, I have a passion for helping homeschool students! I love working with any high school through adult students, but homeschoolers are extra special to me. I have experienced the frustration of not understanding mathematics, of knowing what it is like to be completely lost in a class. I know how difficult it can be to learn math on your own, since I've done it myself. I have tremendous empathy for those who have math anxiety or feel like they can't learn math.
