Hey, I'm Luke! I just recently earned my Bachelors in Mathematics at the University of Washington! When I’m not enjoying the beautiful outdoors here in Washington or playing video games with friends, I’m usually studying more mathematics.
Throughout my life, I’ve tutored many students in a wide range of math subjects, but I specialize in Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, and Calculus I and II. I have more experience teaching students learning late Highschool to early College level mathematics.
For roughly 3 years while I was an undergrad, I held an instructor position for a supplemental course in which I would create practice worksheets, facilitate student-led seminars on concepts learned in the classroom, and work one on one with students enrolled in Calculus I and II. The main focus of these courses was to have students teach each other course content, since it requires true mastery of a subject in order to teach it to someone else. During this time, I have become an expert at determining a student’s level of understanding of core concepts, and excelled at providing just enough information in order for students to have that “A-ha!” moment.
It is my goal to bring this sort of structure into any tutoring sessions. Practice problems will be prepared ahead of time, but I also bring years of practice asking my students insightful questions about key steps or concepts; a technique that has proven to be much more effective in student comprehension than just doing more practice problems, reading a textbook, or attending lectures.
In particular, I take pride in my commitment to making sure that students don’t just know how to reach the correct answer; students should know exactly why the techniques they are using work!
It is my goal to be as accommodating as I can for any students, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about study sessions! I look forward to working with you or your student!
