In Middle School, I required the help of a tutor to get through my courses and to make sure that I was successful. Now that I have completed my Master's degree, I realize how important the skills I learned from my tutor were. I am passionate about serving students in the same way and allowing for them to grow in their confidence and in their skills. For me, I large part of why I struggled in my courses was a lack of confidence in my abilities. I want to make sure that students are learning their worth as well as skills to be successful.
As an undergraduate student, I helped out at after school programs and volunteered at preschools for at risk students. In each of these volunteer positions, I was able to support students in their learning process, whether that was using scissors for the first time, growing in their English vocabulary as it was their second language, or working through a variety of homework assignments.
These experiences have allowed me to understand that each student has different needs a different way of doing tutoring. I look forward to helping students find the best ways for them to learn and to teach study skills along with any subject the are needing extra help in.
Since my first psychology course, I have been passionate about the subject. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2012 and then continued my graduate level work in 2014. I then graduated in 2016 with a Master's of Science in College Counseling and Student Development which connects my love of psychology with my love of education. I continue to keep up to date with news through Psychology Today and other psychology related journals.
I have always had a love of reading and learning new vocabulary. In my current field, I work with students from around the world, the majority of which are learning English for the first time or learned English as a second language. Through this, I have been able to support students in their reading and vocabulary and wold love to support other students as well.
