I am an experienced educator with over twenty years of teaching, tutoring, and mentoring students at the middle school, high school, and adult levels. Much of my work has focused on students who struggled academically or were removed from traditional classroom settings due to discipline or disengagement. As a reengagement specialist and English teacher, I helped students transition back into regular classrooms by rebuilding academic skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging. My background in English and writing allows me to support students in reading comprehension, written expression, and the foundational skills necessary for success across subjects.
One of the most meaningful experiences in my career was tutoring a student throughout high school who entered with significant reading difficulties and little academic confidence. Through consistent one-on-one work, structured instruction, and steady encouragement, he developed functional reading skills and graduated on time. This experience reflects my broader approach to tutoring: meeting students where they are, breaking skills into manageable steps, and helping them build independence. In my classroom teaching, I regularly provided individualized instruction within a group setting, and as a tutor I bring that same clarity, patience, and responsiveness to focused one-on-one work. I hold a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor’s degree in English Education, and I work especially well with students who feel frustrated, discouraged, or left behind by school.
