ADHD

I have been working with students who suffer from this since I first started my tutoring business, in fact my very first student had ADHD. He just graduated high school with As and Bs last year. I find the strategy to deal with this is regular breaks, a structure that is rigid enough to keep them focused while loose enough to allow for conversation, and in generally letting the student finish their thought before gently redirecting them back onto task. All of these strategies have worked well for me in the past.

Algebra 1

I have instructed students through all of the core elements of Algebra, that includes expressions/linear equations, exponents and their rules, creating equations from story problems, graphing linear functions, polynomials, and many more topics. I am aware that students need guided one on one instruction more than anything else, and I specialize in an "I do, we do, you do" strategy that promotes both direct instruction and eventual independent mastery of the subject. I help students build regular study habits that promote faster growth of learning as well such as reading material ahead of time and setting aside scheduled points during the week to commit to studying. No matter what barriers to education your student has, I can work with them and they will improve.

Algebra 2

American History

Stacy Mays : Hello, my name is Stacy Mays and I have been working with Jesse Devries through his business Devries Tutoring since the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. Jesse has been working with my son Cooper, and I intend to continue utilizing his expert educational services next year. Whether it be online or in person, you can rely on Jesse to be there, work hard, clearly communicate, and provide quality tutoring at affordable prices. Last year Cooper almost achieved a 4.0 and was nominated for honors due to his grades. Annette Case: My son, Rex Case, was one of Jesse's first student's/ He started working with him in March of 2020. He has been working with my son for almost 2 years now and I have watched as Rex blossomed. When the Pandemic hit and schools shut down, Jesse was there to ensure my son kept up with the workload and helped him navigate a rather stressful and confusing time for everyone. Jesse was consistent and always there when I needed him to be, he kept to the material that was pertinent and made sure to keep Rex focused and directed even when times were tough. Biology

1. Bachelors degree in Biology from Central Washington University 2. 2.5 years of tutoring experience and 1000+ hours of 1 on 1 tutoring time logged. 3. I have worked with college students in Biology and assisted them, my last one was failing when he found me and I was able to help him study and he passed his last test with a score high enough to pass him with a C. This student still works with me to this day and I can provide his information as a reference upon request. 4. I have a firm understanding in the central dogma of biology. I can recite the process of protein synthesis from memory, starting at the DNA Replication during the S portion Interphase of Mitosis or Meiosis, all the way through the most the intricacies of transcription, translation, and eventually amino acids forming polypeptide bonds all the way to folding into proteins. 5. Though microbiology and genetics are definitely a specialty of mine, I read at a high level and have strong problem solving skills as well as experience in applying my rigor to understanding how something works and figuring out it's intricacies.

Career Development

I developed my own career from scratch. I started my own business, run my own taxes and schedule, and have experience writing cover letters, resumes, and a vast array of other business documents. I am familiar with what it takes to advertise, set up ones own website, and also brain storming different ideas. Most importantly, I bring to the table a lot of positive energy and direction that a lot of young professionals need. I can also review current resumes and such, as well as help students better narrow down their goals going forward as well as assist them in developing concrete steps towards achieving them. Final note, I also can do mock interview practice and anything involving such as I have been to countless interviews as well as have run my own before.

College Counseling

After graduating Central Washington University, I have first hand experience in what it takes to get through college. I can assist with counseling as far as planning what someone wants to do, and have the resources at my disposal to assist in planning the appropriate classes for the student to take so long as I know what college they are or plan to attend. I am also able to help students build skills to better manage their times for classes and studying, improve note taking skills, as well as plot for future decisions to ensure they get the correct credits they need so that they graduate with the correct degree that best suits their end goal career.

Earth Science

Whether it's the layer's of our planet earth, the atmosphere that we breathe, or the ocean that surrounds us, earth's systems are all connected in one way or another and teaching it is my passion! I have instructed multiple students on various subjects in earth science, whether it be modeling how our ocean currents work, doing diagrams of the layers of the earth and what their purposes is, or doing expansive projects on the complexities of our atmosphere, there is not a single concept under earth science I do not have a strong grasp of. I am personally proud of my ability to teach things like the water cycle, the nitrogen cycle, and the phosphorus cycle to my students and connect how it is all not just important to life but to them in particular. I would love to share my passion for teaching this subject with Wyzant and students on this platform.

Elementary Math

I am currently working with a 5th grader, a 1st grader, a 2nd grader, and 4th grader. I am absolutely experienced with elementary aged students, I have patience and a positive attitude so I can make the time learning fun and educational. My background check has already been passed, and I am IXL certified so I have access to a huge database of high level, state standard aligned curriculum so I already have a pretty good plan of what needs to be done and where we need to go to really push your student far.

Elementary Science

- Bachelors degree in Biology - 3 years of small tutoring business experience - Currently working with a 3rd grader in math as well as a 4th grader in math and reading as well as science. - Earlier this year I worked with another 3rd grader on her reading skills and she saw improvement in the classroom within 2 months. - Last year I worked with a elementary student through K-12 and he got straight As, currently he is enrolled in Honors.

I graduated from Central Washington University with a bachelor's degree in the study of biology. I am capable of reading high level scientific reports, and I also am more then capable of assisting in essay structure, figurative language, authors central idea as well as analyzing authors theme and word choice. Environmental Science

I have been teaching environmental science to students of all k-12 ages for 6 years now via my private tutoring business as well as even some on Wyzant. One of the students I helped on Wyzant needed to pass her science GED and as a part of that environmental science knowledge as required. I have worked with groups of students through a local nonprofit to teach kids about food webs, salmon life cycles, wild life conservation, as well as river health and riparian life analysis. Teaching about how environments work, the natural systems within, as well as how the animals all connect together in an ecosystem is my passion and i look forward to sharing it with students on Wyzant!

Executive Functioning

I have worked with many students who require help both with their learning and also understanding how to learn. Building positive habits that promote preparedness for learning is something I have 6 years of experience with. I have taught students how to read, write, balance a checkbook, handle stressful situations, emotional regulation, you name it. My goal as an educator is to make sure my students understand everything they need to know to become successful, critically thinking adults.

GED

I have been working with tutoring high school students for 3 years. I have a diploma as well as a bachelor's degree from CWU in Biology, as well as certificates in business and human resources management. I have years of communication and education strategies to implement to help the student master content while staying interested.

Genetics

From DNA to the protein, I have mastered and memorized the entire central dogma of biology by heart and understand exactly how our genes play a role in evolutionary development of life. Not only am I skilled at teaching the lower level mendelian inheritance, but I am more than capable of teaching higher level concepts such as linked genes and concepts like dihybrid crosses and pedigrees. When it comes to genetics, you can rely on me teach thoroughly, go into extra detail, and extrapolate not just on what things are but what they mean at a more broad scale for the student and society as a whole.

For the last 3 years I have been working with families through my tutoring business. I am familiar with State Standards as well as ample experience in designing lessons to match standards regardless of what subject or state as I can absolutely teach it all. Whether it be math, science, or english, I have what it takes to educate your child as I have already been working with and homeschooling for families since I started tutoring and my education journey. I am also IXL certified and have access to an entire learning database, all of which is aligned with learning standards meaning I have the material to support the learning needs of all students of any age when it comes to homeschooling.

Interview Prep

I have been running my own show for 6 years teaching students not just how to be successful in their school studies but how to be successful as adults. As an example, my junior and senior students often get assistance writing resumes, cover letters, and preparing for interviews. I recently just helped a student of mine write his resume, he got an interview offer, and just yesterday we did a mock interview as well as went over various strategies and tips. Before running my own business I applied at many jobs, I know what employers are looking for, I know how to teach students to target their approach, and I know how to make sure my students are more professional and a cut above the rest when it comes to their preparedness. There is nothing I want more than to lower people's anxiety while helping them be successful in their professional lives, and I would love to bring my skills and passion in this field to Wyzant and students on the platform.

I have been reading at a high level my entire life. I currently own and operate my own private tutoring business which requires me to read plenty of documents from parents, schools, teachers, and other administrative educational faculty. I also wrote an entire handbook that describes every policy, regulation, and aspect of my business on my own from scratch and my business was accepted into the Washington State Provider network which allows me to work with individuals who are undergoing career transitions due to injuries on the job.
