Hey there! My name is Emily Spencer, and I am a Level 2 CRLA certified tutor with specifics to STEM fields of study! While I was enrolled at EWU, I tutored every class I could get my hands on related to STEM. Primarily, my focus has been in chemistry; even more specifically, organic chemistry. I spent a great deal of time in the EWU Chemistry department familiarizing myself with different areas of research and getting to know the professors at a deeper level. Because of this, with the mentorship and reference of several teachers, I was able to tutor students in chemistry classes that I had never taken before. In the mathematics side of STEM, I am a total nerd, and enjoy the complexity of math as a subject of learning. I'm especially fond of helping students put the patterns together involved in math. Biology is not my strongest area, but I have an active B.S. in Biology. I have experience working in research for the Biology department, as well as hands on volunteer at an equine rescue facility.
I love tutoring for the reward of a student who understands the material. The growth and journey of helping others move through the stages of learning is what drives me in life. I love to get to know my students as well; to learn about how they process information, understand material, and express the information they know. I think, as a tutor, the best way to help a student is, not by overfilling their mind with information. Instead, it is to help them use personalized skills to access information they know in a way that is completely unique to them, while also giving that knowledge in the way the teacher/professor is asking.
