About Sophie

Bio

I finished earning my BA in Mathematics and minor in Psychology in 2021. I have a deep love for teaching others, especially math. Many students ask when doing higher-level math, "Why are we learning this?" and "I'm never going to use this in my life". One of my goals as a tutor is to help others to be able to see math applications in real-world contexts. As a tutor, I see it as a part of my job to help students see the value of learning higher-level math and answer those questions.

As a tutor, I see it as a part of my job to help students see the value of learning higher-level math and answer those questions.

I see tutoring as a way to personalize learning. My style of tutoring is based on the idea that everyone learns differently. I like to get to know students' particular learning styles to help optimize the learning of different subjects. I do this through working with students one on one. I like to observe their methods of tackling problems and understand how they talk about themselves. I use psychology to help my students understand themselves and optimize their learning.

I have worked as a TA and Math Tutor for elementary, high school, and college students. I specialize in high school Algebra and Precalculus. During college, I worked as both a grader and TA for Precalculus and also helped tutor fellow students. Also, I volunteered to tutor young children through a program on campus for a year and have experience working with special needs kids. Though I am relatively new to the tutoring scene, I do have a ton of experience working with students and helping them achieve their goals. From helping students just be able to pass their class to getting A's in the class. Whatever their end goal is I can help them achieve it.

I do both in-person and online tutoring. I prefer to tutor in person since it is easier for me to learn about my students, but I also do online as an option. I have worked as a tutor, TA, and grader for a precalculus class for 2 years while in college. While taking precalculus I was also able to help fellow students who were having a hard time with different topics. Precalc is one of my favorite courses in math and one of the strongest subjects I tutor.

Sophie has been a lifesaver! My daughter was really struggling in geometry and the end of semester is looming. After a few sessions with Sophie she’s much more confident, has a better grasp of the subject and hopefully her grade will reflect her effort. She said she now understands the subject thanks to Sophie!!!
