My background in teaching spans 20 +/- years of classes in photography, the digital darkroom, and writing. I've taught ages 5 to adult (including seniors). This includes Private Lessons, Classroom groups, and online. My classes have been through Sitka Center for Arts and Ecology (Oregon), Pacific Northwest Arts Center (Washington), Edmonds College (formerly Edmonds Community College), City of Edmonds, City of Mountlake Terrace, and many other. I was scheduled to teach at Ghost Ranch (New Mexico), but the pandemic changed the opportunity.
I have taught / given presentations at various birding festivals, including Puget Sound Bird Fest (2 yrs), Concrete Eagle Festival (9 yrs), Port Susan Snow Goose Festival (6 yrs), Leavenworth Spring Birding Festival (2 yrs), Othello Sandhill Crane Festival (3 yrs), Wings over Water, Pacific City Birding & Blues Festival, and Ridgefield Birding & Blue Grass Festival. I've spoken at many other events.
My photography experience spans birds, wildlife, and landscape. Commercially, I've shot Stock, Commercial Real Estate, Product, and Portraits. I do all my own editing in Photoshop, and related software.
My teaching style is to include lecture, visual, and hands-on learning techniques. I find that hearing, seeing, and doing allows the student to retain more knowledge.
My freelance writing experience includes CBSLocal.com ("Best Of"), Examiner.com, and AXS.com. Currently, I write for OM Times. My education includes a B.A. from the University of Washington in English Composition.
