Bio

My paradigm as a teacher will always be to make myself progressively unnecessary.

I currently work as a professional writer and tutor. I've lived all over the United States, although I grew up in Scotland of all places. My scores on the SAT and ACT were perfect (1600 and 36 respectively), but I too had to work hard to get there, so I know what it's like when you're just starting out.

My scores on the SAT and ACT were perfect (1600 and 36 respectively), but I too had to work hard to get there, so I know what it's like when you're just starting out.

Over the years, I've studied with students suffering from ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, speech disorders, and depression; I personally grew up inured to social anxiety, so I can always empathize.

Some tutors will tell you that they know all the tricks and shortcuts. But really, there are no tricks. No shortcuts. Just hard work and sleepless nights and talking to yourself while brushing your teeth in the morning trying to remember the quadratics formula.

I have a decade of experience teaching a panoply of subjects. In the sciences, that includes Biology; College Physics I (Mechanics, Elasticity, Fluids, Diffusion) and II (Electromagnetism, Circuits, Waves, Optics); Introductory Quantum Mechanics; and General Chemistry.

In Mathematics, I teach Real Analysis, Vector & Multivariable Calculus, Discrete and Finite Mathematics (Group Theory, Set Theory, Topology), Linear Algebra, and Probability & Statistics.

I absolutely love writing, of course, so I can also teach you how to write an action scene or listen to a poem.

The ACT English section will test your ability to write, read, and detect subtle errors in various passages. You will need to master both common writing conventions (such as proper use of the comma and semicolon) and more advanced grammatical concepts (who vs whom, irregular past participles, etc.)
ACT Math

ACT Math

The ACT Math certainly looks comprehensive, covering everything from Trigonometry to Probability and Statistics. But it's really not so bad once we get started! Plus, every minute you spend studying will also help you get ready for college. I have all the necessary study materials, including dozens of real, previously-administered ACT tests, so you will not need to purchase extra materials.

I enjoy taking standardized tests like the ACT, and I love helping others do the same, including for the Reading section.
ACT Science

ACT Science

Every clue to solve a problem is provided in the question, and some clever sleuthing is often all you'll need to get the answer! The ACT science section covers basic chemistry, physics, and biology, although technically you don't need to know much about these subjects to be successful on the test.

An introduction to algebra includes topics such as linear equations, ratios, quadratic equations, special factorizations, complex numbers, graphing linear and quadratic equations, linear and quadratic inequalities, functions, polynomials, exponents and logarithms, absolute value, sequences and series, and more!

Algebra 2

In addition to the standard Algebra 2 and Precalculus curriculums, I tutor advanced topics, such as problem solving strategies for success on the AMC and AIME competitions.

Biology

Biology lends itself to metaphors. And flash cards. But it doesn't have to be boring! I've completed courses in Immunology, Endocrinology, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, and all sorts of prerequisites at Harvard. As long as we're resourceful, learning Biology can be fun and manageable.

Chemistry is both fun and fascinating, which is lucky because it's also a really important prerequesite. I've completed four semesters of Chemistry at Harvard as part of the Pre-Med curriculum - General Chem I & II, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry.

The SAT Reading section is deceptively straightforward. There are tropes of questions that appear again and again and can be mastered with basic reading and comprehension strategies. I have all the study materials you would ever need, including half a dozen actual, previously administered SAT tests, so you shouldn't need to purchase extra books.

The SAT Writing section is my favorite component of the test. I think it's somewhat relaxing and fun!

Simeon is one of the most gifted teachers I have ever known. I only wish our school system was full of people with half the talent of this man. Simeon has consistently delivered professional, concise, thorough lessons "on-the-fly" with my twin sons via Skype. Simeon has an innate ability to determine exactly where a student's strengths and weaknesses lie, and to quickly formulate a lesson plan that starts precisely where it needs to. His engaging approach captures my sons' attention immediately. Within minutes, he has them laughing and enjoying themselves, while they are learning at an advanced level. How many teachers do you know that could have two 16 year old boys excited about writing essays during their summer vacation? It is not just what is happening during the lessons, but also what is happening between their lessons with Simeon, that continues to impress me. My boys have always been willing to devote time to their studies, but to witness the anticipation with which they approach their weekly assignments is truly inspiring. Great 1st lesson

Great 1st lesson! A quick 10 min introduction and dived right into lesson. Simeon made my daughter feel comfortable right away. He’s encouraging, very easy to work with. We prepared a few problems to work through for the session. A little back and forth on the first problem, the rest went really well. He went over the session by 10 minutes to ensure the completion of his teaching. Simeon also provided some tips on how to find similar problems to work on post session. Overall a great start.
