I’m John! I’m a computer science tutor specializing in the Python, JavaScript, Java, C# and SQL languages as well as database theory. I’m also experienced with tutoring introductory programming, object-oriented programming, data structures, cloud computing including AWS and Azure in addition to computer networking. I have over 10 years experience teaching college courses at LaGuardia Community College in New York and tutoring individuals and small groups. Previously, I have mainly tutored college age students as well as adult learners, but I am also open to tutoring high-school students who are taking a Computer Science course or even just learning to program for the first time. I love teaching others and enjoy the chance to help students to better understand challenging programming topics. Our lessons will be tailored towards your level of programming experience.

Professionally, I also have over 15 years of experience working in my current role as a software engineer as well as previous software trainer positions in the healthcare information technology industry. I have worked for software companies as well as healthcare organizations building interfaces between different systems and developing automations using Python, JavaScript, C#, Java and SQL Server. I have also developed iOS apps using Swift and Android apps using both Kotlin and Java.

My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from Queens College (City University of New York) with a 3.6 GPA in 2024. I also hold a second Bachelor of Science degree in Health Policy and Administration from Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania. Additionally, I’ve completed some graduate study in Cybersecurity from City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering. I have IT certifications in CompTIA Network+, AWS Cloud Practitioner and Azure Fundamentals.

Computer Science

I hold a degree in Computer Science and have over 10 years of experience tutoring college students, adult learners, and early‑career professionals. I specialize in helping learners build strong foundations in core computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, database theory, and object‑oriented programming. I tutor programming in Python, Java, JavaScript, and C#, C++ and C, focusing on helping students understand not just how to write code, but why solutions work. My teaching style emphasizes clear explanations, real‑world examples, and step‑by‑step problem solving. Professionally, I’ve worked as a data engineer and software developer in Python, C#, Java and JavaScript, and I bring that practical experience into my lessons. I also hold certifications in Azure Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Practitioner, and CompTIA Network+, along with a background in cybersecurity. My students have successfully improved grades, strengthened their confidence in programming, and prepared for technical interviews. I enjoy meeting learners of all levels where they are and helping them progress with patience, clarity, and structure.
Networking (Computer)

Networking (Computer)

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Queens College and have completed formal coursework in computer network theory, network security, and systems fundamentals. I also earned the CompTIA Network+ certification, which I now help students prepare for through structured, exam‑aligned tutoring. Professionally, I have hands‑on experience in both network administration and network engineering roles. My work has included configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches, managing VLANs, configuring firewalls, implementing secure network architectures, monitoring network performance, and supporting enterprise‑level connectivity. This real‑world background allows me to explain not only how networking concepts work, but why they matter in practical environments. I have over 10 years of experience tutoring and teaching technical subjects to college students, adult learners, and IT professionals. My approach to networking instruction is clear, structured, and outcomes‑focused. For certification candidates, I break down every Network+ domain into manageable lessons, reinforce key concepts with real examples, and help students master the 7 layers of the OSI model, subnetting, routing and switching fundamentals, wireless standards, security principles, and troubleshooting methodologies. Whether you are preparing for the CompTIA Network+ exam, taking a college networking course, or building foundational IT skills, I tailor each session to your goals and help you build confidence through guided practice and step‑by‑step explanations.
