I have over ten years of experience teaching both one-on-one and in classroom settings and love meeting and helping people. In particular, I love working with teenagers and helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in high school and to prepare for college. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and intuitive which I believe is a good fit for students of that age. I also adapt my teaching methods to the needs of the student.
I have a fairly diverse background: As a graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in neurobiology I regularly tutor students in biology, math through calculus, and chemistry. I also coach high schoolers through the college application process and enjoy helping them write their personal statements. I've taught both beginning and intermediate SAT classes and also have much experience working with ESL students, both children and adults. I also tutor for the DAT, or dental admissions test, and mentor applicants for the dental school application. I was accepted to dental schools at the University of Washington and Columbia University, but am currently pursuing a career in computer science. Please feel free to contact me with any questions! Annie has been a great tutor for our daughter. After a few sessions with Annie, her scores and confidence are going up, and she is managing her assignments and understanding in her math class much better. Annie has been very responsive to our scheduling requests (which are sometimes a little last-minute) and has always been very punctual - and most importantly she seems confident in her understanding of the material and has been successful at helping our daughter increase her competence and confidence in math.
We were very pleased with Annie's tutoring of our 11 year son. Annie helped him with general homework with a focus on Math and Language Arts. She was professional, organized, positive and 100% dependable. We highly recommend her.
We're impressed - we rate Annie as "excellent"! My daughter is looking forward to working with Annie.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
