Hi! I'm Declan, a recent Vanderbilt University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a 520 on the MCAT (97th percentile).
I've been tutoring one-on-one over Zoom for about three years and have worked with more than 75 students in that time. The subjects I tutor most often are MCAT prep, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and cell biology, and I'd also be comfortable and interested in working with high school students in AP Biology and AP Chemistry. My approach is highly individualized: I start every new student with a diagnostic conversation to figure out where their content gaps are versus where their test-taking strategy is breaking down, and I build session plans around that rather than running a fixed curriculum. For the MCAT specifically, I lean on AAMC practice passages, timed review, and teaching students how to reason through unfamiliar questions instead of memorizing answer patterns.
What I genuinely enjoy about tutoring is the chance to be part of someone's academic journey and to have a real, tangible impact on where it takes them. Watching a student go from struggling with a concept to confidently explaining it back to me is the most rewarding part of this work, and I make every session feel collaborative rather than lecture-style. I'd love to hear what you're working on and figure out how I can help.
