Hi! I’m Giya, a nationally competitive speech and debate student and experienced tutor specializing in NSDA-style speech events, particularly Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Program Oral Interpretation, and Impromptu. Over the course of my speech and debate career, I have ranked at the state championship twice and qualified for the Tournament of Champions (TOC) in two different events, giving me firsthand experience. Through speech, I’ve learned that powerful communication isn’t just about talent: it’s about structure, clarity, and confidence. I bring this philosophy into my tutoring approach by helping students develop not only technically strong speeches, but also authentic voices. My lessons are highly personalized: I work with students on topic development, argumentation, organization, delivery, interpretation, timing, and judge adaptation, while also building the confidence needed to succeed in tournaments.
Outside of Speech & Debate coaching, I have one year of teaching experience in IB Language & Literature HL as well as English (grades 9-12). In high school, I completed the IB diploma, earning a 40/45. Particularly, I earned a 7 on the IB English Language and Literature HL exam, and I help students strengthen analytical writing, literary interpretation, and rhetorical skills alongside their speaking abilities. My goal is to make speech and English feel accessible, creative, and empowering. I use structured lesson plans, targeted feedback, model examples, and practice drills to ensure students make measurable progress while still enjoying the process. Whether a student is preparing for their first tournament, aiming for state finals, or working on academic writing, I adapt my teaching style to fit their individual needs.
I’m passionate about helping students grow as thinkers, speakers, and global citizens, and I’m always happy to collaborate with students and parents to create the most effective learning plan. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
