I cherish spending time with students, teaching them, but mostly learning from them. As a kid, I struggled with math, science and problem solving. Now, with a neuroscience BSc, I miss teaching. So, I'm tutoring to share my techniques for how to learn math and chemistry, while alleviating students' struggles.
From 2021 to 2024, I've tutored algebra, trig and chemistry to college students. My students' BIGGEST wins were;
1) improving their average exam scores on their finals and
2) independently identifying unknown substances for their final research projects.
Additionally, I offer 4 years of experience tutoring research and experimentation to high schoolers. One BIG win for my students was implementing an anti-cyber bullying policy change in their school.
My goal is to be a lighthouse, while my students navigate unknowns. I listen to their strengths and areas of improvement, then craft a strategy for strengthening problem areas. I follow the method of show 1, do 1 and teach 1.
That is, I show my students a problem solving method, I have them execute that method, then I have them "teach me" this method by walking me through a practice problem. Rinse and repeat.
With consistent, calibrated practice, anyone can learn anything. Remember: stay curious and always as questions!
I welcome the opportunity to speak with you if you feel that I would be a solid fit for your math, chemistry or any other learning goals :D
Wishing you well,
LJ
