Since early 2010, I have specialized in giving struggling students the skills to be successful in the classroom including all ages (4th grade through adult). My philosophy in tutoring is to build confidence and academic proficiency so I can release the student.

I have tutored students in many subjects including math (like IB and AP math classes through college calculus), science (like IB and AP chemistry, biology, physics, and anatomy physiology) and lately English writing and grammar. Due to the subject matter that I specialize in, I find that I am effective at helping students with test-taking for ASVAB, Accuplacer / WAMAP placement tests, SAT and ACT exam preparation. I am good at what I do because I am able to pinpoint the student's style of learning and help them build study skills quickly.

I do tutor students who contract with me directly as well so please understand that the hours of availability on Wyzant give general tutoring work hours. Please contact me for current session dates and times that are open to new students!

Due to COVID-19, I am not able to work one on one in person at the Covington Library which is where I have been meeting with students. Instead, I am meeting students online using Wyzant's proprietary online tutoring system or Skype.

I look forward to working with you and seeing you succeed.

Best regards,
Stephanie

Business

Business

I worked for Microsoft, Safeco and PACCAR from 1994-2008. My primary role during that time was as a project manager, program manager, and project consultant for the PMO. As a part of my job, I had to create documents that outlined a project, its resource needs, risks, and managed the schedule plus the resources and issues. I understand ROI (return on investment) and have helped train many project managers, directors and senior directors in project management as well as putting technical terms (from IT) into basic business language to communicate to the customers the benefits and costs of completing a project or program. I also helped create and run a piano tuning business for my husband including doing the marketing and accounting books. I was the President of the Seattle Philharmonic board of trustees from 1993-1995 rebuilding the business side of the orchestra including writing and receiving grant monies for new programs that benefited the needy in our community.

I've played clarinet since the age of 9, won awards at the Kingco Conference Solo Ensemble Contests and performed at two State solo competitions. In addition, I played for the Seattle Youth Symphony and represented our state in the Northwest Band and then orchestra, as well as the John Philip Sousa Band. Although I did not pursue music as a major at the UW, I did go on to be the clarinet teacher at a music academy in Issaquah for over 5 years. I have taught privately for almost 20 years.

I have four children ages: 5-15 and have tutored similar ages for the past few years. From learning shapes, colors, letters and numbers to learning simple addition and subtraction, I have some experience with montessori methods using manipulatives and other objects to help teach the younger elementary school age all that they need to build on in the upper elementary ages. I also have taught 4-6th graders so I am familiar with the building approach for English / Grammar, Math, Sciences and Social Studies.

I encourage while giving the players new opportunities to try skills in teamwork and individual soccer skills as well.

The only tutor to choose!!!

Where do I begin? My son Alex is highly capable, and has very lofty goals. He took his SAT and ACT on his own without tutoring or even having entered his junior year of high school (thereby not having had many of the classes) and did respectably. He wanted better, because he wants the most options when choosing a college. We were recommended to Stephanie from another of her students and signed up. She met with Alex once a week, and was always VERY flexible with his schedule (and tardiness...). No matter how stressed he was about homework or practice tests before seeing Stephanie, he always came back reassured and confident. Sometimes her advice was the same as the advice I'd given him, but it was somehow much better received coming from her. She relates to teens very well. Alex would take the practice tests, and then they'd go over them to see where he was weak and needed extra help, and they would focus on that. Through her help and encouragement and belief, as well as her many tricks and tips to master the test, Alex increased his SAT score by 150 points. Yes, you read right, 150 points and his composite ACT by EIGHT points!!! Do yourself a favor, don't debate this. Just choose Stephanie. She is worth every cent, and will be remembered forever and recommended to all!!!

A great tutor!

Stephanie is a caring and very positive tutor. My older son started seeing her for his IB Extended Essay last summer. The due for the essay was in January, but he played football and swam, so he needed to start early. Stephanie quickly saw he needed to learn how to write and made a plan for him. She was very flexible with his busy football schedule and found time for him. After the essay, he continued to see her for his collage essays, SAT, and school homework. She is very knowledgeable for all area! I wished I found her earlier when he was struggling with Calculus. So, now, my younger son (freshman), who has been struggling with math, started meeting with her. I did not think he would continue to see her because of his “I do not want to study” attitude. However, he has never complained meeting with her every week. In fact, he now wants to do better and wants to go to college. I am very thankful to Stephanie being patient with him. She tutors math, science, and writing for him. On the way home after each lesson, he talks about how good grades he wants to attain. He does not give up easily as he used to. I can tell she gives him positive thoughts. His grades went up this semester, 5 As and 1 B! I am happy to see him talking about his grades proudly. Thank you! You are the best tutor for my both boys.

Pure awesomeness

Stephanie tutors both of my children. I'm convinced my son would not have passed chemistry without her guidance. She also helped provide guidance for running start and home Learning plans for my other child. She utilizes positive reinforcement in everything she does and also tries different learning styles depending upon the students needs. She is incredible!

knowledgeable, caring, personable tutor

Stephanie is very personable and really gets to know her students learning style so she can cater the lesson so they understand it. My daughter had several tutors that did not work out for one reason or another and we felt frustrated and hopeless about her passing her Chemistry class. Then we met Stephanie and things have turned around for the better, she has really given my daughter more confidence and hope. I would recommend Stephanie to anyone that needs a thoughtful, caring and knowledgeable tutor.
