Hello! My name is Dong, and I hold a Ph.D. in astrophysics. I have a strong foundation in mathematics and physics, having been a top-performing student in national math and science competitions in high school and the top student in my college's astronomy department. I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience. My teaching journey began as an undergraduate when I started tutoring fellow students in math and physics. In graduate school, I served as a teaching assistant for multiple university-level courses, hosting office hours and helping students master challenging material. I also led numerous public outreach events to introduce physics and astronomy to broader audiences.
After earning my doctorate, I transitioned into the tech industry, where I worked at companies including IBM. There, I mentored junior employees and helped many of them successfully transition into data science roles. Despite these career shifts, I always returned to education. Most recently, I have focused on high school math tutoring, particularly for the SAT, ACT, AP Calculus AB/BC, and K12 math in general. I have worked with students of all levels, both one-on-one and in small online groups. My approach is structured, patient, and personalized. I begin with diagnostic assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses and then build targeted learning plans. I emphasize true understanding over memorization, always adapting my explanations to suit each student's learning style.
Whether your goal is to improve test scores or build lasting confidence in math, I would be excited to support your journey!
