My name is Emma, and I am excited to get started on our learning journey together. Whether you need support with your college essay, a tune-up in reading comprehension, or you're a parent/guardian hoping to support your student reach their educational goals, I am here to help.
I graduated from Lesley University in 2019 with a Master's of Education in Language and Literacy. Additionally, I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont in 2012. I have over a decade of experience working as a public school classroom educator. While in college and graduate school, I realized that I am an experiential learner. I always personally appreciated professors and teachers who supported a diverse array of learning modalities-hands-on, audio-visual, use of the arts and music, technology, and so on. I always start a unit or even lesson with an "attention-grabber;" whether a personal anecdote, a read-aloud, a short video clip, a piece of art, I always try to engage my learners through something tangible and engaging off the bat. I then typically brainstorm with my students about what they already know about a topic, what they'd like to know, and what questions they'd like to answer; I am here to help uncover answers, not give them, and I feel students learn best when they feel personally invested in a topic. From there, I will provide explicit instruction in the given topic, and then provide independent work time for the student. This process is tailored, however, to each student's personal needs.
I have tutoring experience with elementary students, but my Master's degree has provided me with the tools to coach students all the way up through the high school level. My teaching experience has been in primarily upper elementary classrooms both in the United States and abroad.
