If you're taking a science class in high school, I've probably taught it. Over my years of teaching I've enjoyed the challenge of providing students with alternative ways of getting to better understanding of challenging topics. Let my experience on the "other side" of what you're doing help you improve your learning, understanding, and grades!

I am a certified high school science teacher in Vermont. 2021-22 marked my 25th year in the classroom. I've taught every science subject my school offers and almost every course. In 2009 I received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching.

I am taking a leave of absence for the 2022-23 school year to pursue my passions of cycling and skiing as well as to recharge myself for the remainder of my career. I love working with students and want to stay connected by tutoring during this time. Let me help you with my vast experience using example, analogy, and practice.

Biology

Biology

I have 25 years experience teaching high school biology and other subjects (19 years of AP Biology). I've completed two, one week, lab-oriented College Board AP Bio workshops and two biotechnology workshops with Vermont Technical College (electrophoresis, ELISA, etc.). I've done project-based lab work with students in conjunction with the University of Vermont HELiX/EPSCOR program (now defunct). The topics were: Detection of genetic damage in injured cells, Detection of GMO's in Food (both PCR/Electrophoresis based), and Effects of GMO's on soil macroinvertebrates. I've also participated/contributed to the EPSCOR Streams project doing stream water sampling and macroinvertebrate censusing. During college, I did data forest plot data collection with the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station for two summers.
Chemistry

Chemistry

25 years of high school teaching, including a presidential award. I've taught chemistry for 5+ years.
Genetics

Genetics

I taught AP Biology for 20 years and am very comfortable with the classical, population, and molecular genetics of that course. I also conducted supervised research using PCR, electrophoresis, ELISA, and the like. At the college level, I think I'd be helpful through the 100 level.

Great teacher!

I like how he manages to explain complex things in simple ways and how knowledgeable he is. He gives me additional information that is probably boy not going to be on the exam but that I still like to hear. Plus, I'm definitely not stressing about finals as much

superb at easy to digest explanations.

So helpful! Walked my son through his study guide on genetic engineering and helped him understand how and where he needed to go deeper and why. Gus left with a much stronger understanding of the material and confidence in how to conquer it.

Helpful, knowledgeable, patient and considerate

We went over a detailed Genetics Lab assignment and William was really terrific in teaching me concepts that confused me. He took his time and he was patient with me. I was very comfortable with the material after our lesson so I could continue on my own.

Excellent teacher

William has been helping me with AP Biology for the past semester and I am confidently going into the exam because of him. He is genuinely passionate about every area we've discussed and provides excellent explanations for these concepts. William's expertise in teaching and Biology was proven even more when he recommended specific review topics for me and guided me through the entire course and question types I would encounter. My grade has been able to stay higher than 90% because of his teaching. Would definitely recommend!

Very friendly and knowledgeable tutor

William gave a great lesson regarding Mitosis and Meiosis. He answered any question I had and was very knowledgeable on the topic. He's very friendly, polite, and welcoming and I'm looking forward to taking lessons with him in the future. I would recommend him to anyone struggling in Biology or interested in learning more about it. A++!
