I am an educator with over five years of experience. I also tutor students 1-1 in topics related to reading and writing comprehension. I earned my MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon, my MTS from Harvard Divinity School, and my BA in English Literature and Classical Studies from Hunter College.
My objective is to motivate my students to develop their own learning interests and critical thinking skills through literature and writing, as well as become self-advocates in their learning environment across disciplines. Teaching a range of courses—from introductory workshops in poetry and literature to first-year English Composition courses—has made me aware of the needs and interests of a diverse student body. As a result, I prepare lesson plans with the purpose of including all of my students’ various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences in the topics that we discuss in class, as well as in the formal and reflective writing assignments that I ask them to complete. Collaborative learning through the peer review process and workshop space is also important to my teaching philosophy in order to promote the kind of reflective thinking that is critical to writing and revision processes, and for my students to develop their communicative and cross-disciplinary skills.
As instructor at the Community College of Vermont, I provide high-level support for my students in both online and in-person courses. For seminars and peer-review workshops, I prepare multimodal teaching materials with equity and accessibility in mind, such as providing audio or visual alternatives to our course texts, and tailoring lessons to the diverse student learning styles in my classroom. I provide thorough evaluation, track student attendance and achievements, as well as adjust syllabi and teaching materials from previous semesters to inform future training opportunities. I also communicate regularly by email with my students.
