I'm Maryella, a freshman at Middlebury College studying political science. I have taken the SAT 5 times, scoring an 800 on reading and 780 on math. I have taken the SAT 5 times, including the digital version, which was introduced in early 2024. Having first-hand experience with this exam is valuable, since the digital test is very different than the paper version, especially the math section, where utilizing the desmos calculator now plays a huge role in test-taking strategy. I have general teaching experience as president of the Peer Tutoring Club at my high school, and as an older sister! With regards to the SAT, I have been a volunteer SAT math tutor on Khan Academy's partner tutoring site, Schoolhouse.world, for 5 months. During that time, I lead 4 bootcamps with 8 sessions each, becoming in the top 10% to educators for hours taught, positive ratings (158), and "super helpful" ratings. Although I enjoyed teaching on Schoolhouse, I found it difficult to teach so many learners at once, all of whom were at different levels. I switched to tutoring 1-on-1 here so I could personalize my lessons to the student, and make the most positive impact I can. I believe the best way to learn is through doing. My students and I focus on taking practice tests, finding patterns in questions missed, and analyzing where the disconnect between knowledge and application exists. I emphasize not only the importance of learning math concepts, but also develop test-taking strategies that work for the individual.
