I am, first and foremost, a learner. I believe that embracing the challenge of learning a new skill, reading about it, and deliberately practicing it is the most engaging and rewarding human endeavor. Some skills I am currently working on are: studying for the MCAT, downhill skiing, and swimming.
As you might have guessed, I loved school growing up, and because I had so many interests, I always worked to study smarter, not harder, so that I could learn more. This process of trying and refining many study methods paid off when I got to college and realized that efficient studying is absolutely essential to keeping up and doing well in an undergraduate science program.
Ultimately, though, everything useful that I learned about chemistry and writing came from good teachers. Developing a to broad set of tools to study efficiently so that you internalize new knowledge and skills quickly is essential, but that toolbox is only useful when you have a great teacher to coach you through challenges and help you sort out the crucial details and concepts from the less important ones.
I want to help you develop your studying toolbox AND be your teacher for chemistry and/or writing.
I graduated at the top of my class in chemistry at the University of Vermont and received multiple department awards including funding for a summer of research in organic chemical synthesis. I have taught (and currently teach) labs at the college level in general chemistry and organic chemistry and tutored students in all subjects relating to chemistry. I also have industry experience - I worked at a biotech company called Microbiotix synthesizing drug analogues for antibiotic development projects. I am passionate about science, especially chemistry, and I believe that everyone can learn even the most complex concepts, and enjoy the process, when they are explained properly.
I believe that writing well and thinking clearly go hand in hand, which is why I love to write and edit and why I added a writing minor on to my already busy underg
