About Vaughan

I love history and enjoy literature and writing. My A.B. degree was about the equivalent of a masters in English.

I have had background checks done twice in the last 2-3 years in order to do the substituting I have done and am doing. If you need me to get another, I'll be glad to do one.

Grammar is important, and needs to come first. After grammar, teaching someone how to write with a good style, beyond the basics, would be only a part of what I can do. Writing is more than putting down what one knows. There is a technique to making it readable and interesting. Knowing how to read "Chicken Little" through Shakespeare makes reading more fun.

My first love is history and social studies, and my publication is in history. I have extensive knowledge of American and British history with good European history qualifications, and can be helpful in other areas of history as well.

Need help in government/constitutional studies, or business law, or how to write a paper on any subject? Let's do it together. Aside from my undergraduate degree, my doctorate is in law, a Juris Doctor degree, and my experience in law and my education give me the skills needed to teach writing, English, history and more.

As my resume shows, I am well qualified in many other subject matters as well.

I have taught and lectured in several subjects and have done substitute teaching for ages 9-18, even working as a physics lab instructor in college.

My knowledge, skills, and attitude are conducive to tutoring young people from grade school through college. I enjoy what I teach and enjoy children, high school people, and college students too, and they like me.

Let me help you.

If you are outside of the 40 mile radius and need help, I can go further if you have or are a truly interested student. I would charge more due the travel time and mileage, but that can be discussed. I've helped many college students with their writing. I'd like to help you or your student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Literature

I studied literature in college, with a double major, and was told by the head of the English department that I had the equivalent of a masters in English. Since then, I have kept up my interest in literature.

My writing skills are even better.

Public Speaking

As an attorney, I have spoken in front of judges, to juries, panels, boards, the Supreme Court (Vermont), and the like. I have lectured in history, literature, and genealogy. My experience also includes doing marketing presentations for a large resort in Vermont and Florida to large and small groups. I know how to project my voice without yelling, make my subject interesting, and keep an audience. I have also spoken in church and taught others how to speak, be heard, and get rid of their fears.
