Hi there! I'm Nicki, and I specialize in tutoring biology and chemistry. I've been a science tutor for many years, for students of all ages and levels, and I love what I do! I graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Physiology and Neuroscience with a minor in French Literature from UCSD. I am a current medical student so I additionally have a strong background in physiology, pharmacology, and anatomy. I began tutoring while I was in college, and I've helped many students ever since to consistently succeed in their courses and often improve their work by many letter grades. I know what it's like to feel like a topic or a course is difficult, so as a tutor I want to share the valuable skills that I've learned in college and in the research labs I've worked in to help students reach their goals!

I have been a tutor for college chemistry, college biology, AP Biology, and AP Chemistry since 2018. My students have all consistently shown significant improvement, and many of them still keep in touch with me today. Our tutoring sessions always focus on the student's goals, and work towards breaking down difficult concepts and making science accessible and interesting!

I have been a tutor for AP Biology and college biology courses since 2018. My students have all consistently shown significant improvement, with the last group of AP Biology students I taught all receiving an A in their second semester. Many of my students have gotten 5's on the AP test, and every one of my students has always passed! As a graduate from UCSD with a degree in Physiology & Neuroscience, I have extensive knowledge of many topics in biology as well as experience tutoring different biology courses. I have also worked in biology labs, particularly focusing on neuroscience, so I'm able to bring real-life examples and background to help make lessons engaging and effective! My students have all consistently improved in their coursework and many have come to love biology even if they found it challenging initially. I aim to make tutoring accessible and easy to understand, and focus on clearly and patiently explaining topics in whatever way works best for you!

As a tutor, I focus on explaining concepts clearly and patiently, and work to use whatever learning style works best for you. As a graduate from UCSD with a degree in Physiology & Neuroscience, I have taken many university chemistry courses that give me a strong background of the topic, and also an understanding of what it's like to be in a college level chemistry course. I have also worked as a researcher in an organic chemistry/biochemistry lab, so I have extensive knowledge and real-world experience of chemistry, which helps me make lessons informed and engaging! My students have all consistently shown significant improvement in their courses, with some improving multiple letter grades, and many have come to love chemistry even if they found it challenging initially!

As a graduate from UCSD with a B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience, I have a significant amount of knowledge on genetics from the multiple courses I have taken on it. I have taken courses on classical genetics, prokaryotic genetics, and eukaryotic genetics. I have been tutoring genetics for close to two years, and I've come up unique and effective ways to explain difficult genetics concepts, from mapping genes on chromosomes to understanding the molecular basis of crossing over. As a tutor, I aim to explain these concepts in ways that are not only easy to grasp, but that allow the student to truly understand them so that they can apply them on their own in their homework, on their exams, and even in their future careers.

As a current medical student, I have a strong background in physiology and anatomy, and love tutoring it! I have not only completed full dissections of the human body, but also have assisted my medical school's anatomy lab in producing educational materials including dissection videos for our medical students to learn from. This experience, in addition to my 5+ years of tutoring physiology and anatomy, has given me the unique advantage of having a very strong knowledge base of the human body, and allowed me to develop easy-to-understand ways to explain difficult physiology concepts. Having graduated from UCSD with a B.S. in Physiology & Neuroscience, I have a strong grasp of the subject, and love tutoring it!
