I’ve been helping people with math for over 20 years, starting in high school with basic algebra and geometry. During college and graduate school, I tutored topics ranging from calculus to advanced honors courses like proof-based linear algebra. Later, as a PhD graduate and university instructor, I taught diverse subjects, including calculus, topology, real analysis, discrete math, probability, and group theory. I also supervised student research, mentoring them in advanced mathematical concepts. Since then I've tutored subjects including number theory, graduate statistics, theory of computing, and first-order logic.

Since transitioning from academia in 2020, I’ve continued tutoring students of all levels—high school learners grappling with algebra, university students mastering proof-writing, and even professionals refreshing their skills. I’ve also expanded my expertise to data science and enjoy applying math to real-world problems.

Over the years, I’ve honed the ability to tailor my teaching to each student’s needs. Some thrive on concrete examples, others on understanding the deeper logic, and many benefit from computational simulations. I believe a personalized, supportive approach not only helps students grasp concepts but also builds confidence and alleviates math anxiety.

Whether you’re preparing for a standardized test, tackling a challenging course, or just exploring math for its own sake, I’m here to help you achieve your goals—and maybe even enjoy the journey!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I taught group theory and introduction to higher math at the university level (instructor - not TA). I've also tutored groups, rings, fields, modules, and Galois theory online. I'm a PhD mathematician with a thesis in a heavily algebraic subject. And I just plain love abstract algebra and always have enjoyed helping others to enjoy it too!
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have a PhD in math (operator algebras). I’ve studied all higher-level algebraic structures (groups, rings, fields, modules, category theory, homology, etc.). Published research articles in operator algebras. Taught abstract algebra at the university level.
Calculus

Calculus

I have taught and tutored calculus since 2009. I've taught Calc 1 subjects like limits, derivatives, applications of derivatives, antiderivatives and integrals, the fundamental theorem, and surfaces/volumes of revolution. I've taught Calc 2 subjects like integration techniques (incl. trig sub, partial fractions, etc.), and infinite sequences/series. I've also taught vector calculus - including gradients, curl, divergence, and multidimensional integration.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I've taught Matlab, Python, R, and Java coding since 2014. I have a strong background in logic and computability theory -- I've taught theory of computing, such as automata, Turing machines, and context free languages -- as well as algorithms and complexity analysis. I also have taught a lot of nuts and bolts coding (Python for data science, R for statistics).
Data Science

Data Science

I have a PhD in mathematics and I have taught data-heavy courses including applied matrix theory. Additionally I have worked in the tech sector as a data scientist, using standard tools like RStudio, ggplot2, SQL, and seaborn to create impactful visualizations. I am familiar with the theory of data science as well, specifically as laid out in the book The Elements of Statistical Learning.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

Taught ordinary differential equations at Kansas State University. Also studied related topics of analysis, linear algebra, and partial and stochastic differential equations.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I have taught discrete math at the university level (at Kansas State University). With a PhD in a discrete math subject and numerous discrete math courses under my belt, I'm amply qualified to help students learn the subject. I have also published multiple original research papers, including a discrete math paper (in graph theory and combinatorics). I have helped numerous students succeed in their study of discrete math.
Finite Math

Finite Math

I taught discrete (finite) math at Kansas State University. I've also taught introduction to higher mathematics at St. Lawrence University, which included a great deal of finite mathematics. My students enjoyed the subject and learned a great deal. Among several others I've published one paper in graph theory/combinatorics, which is closely related to finite math.
Geometry

Geometry

I taught topology at Dartmouth, and I've taught differential topology as well as advanced college geometry (non-Euclidean) online.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

I have taught linear algebra at Dartmouth College (both as TA and course instructor) and at Kansas State (course instructor). I taught differential equations at Kansas State. I know both subjects very well.
Logic

Logic

I taught introduction to higher mathematics at St. Lawrence University, including a significant amount of logic (propositional and predicate). I have more than two decades of experience tutoring math and logic, including symbolic logic. I also have experience with advanced mathematical logic (formal systems, theories, completeness and soundness theorems, etc.).
Precalculus

Precalculus

Tutored precalculus to high school students. Taught algebra and trigonometry at Kansas State University.
Probability

Probability

Taught graduate-level probability at Kansas State University Familiar with statistical modeling software Extensive experience with probability theory, real analysis, and related subjects.
Real Analysis

Real Analysis

I am a PhD mathematician whose thesis was in functional analysis, specifically the subfield of operator algebras. This entire subject is written in the language of real analysis, and I have extensive experience teaching the subject. I taught point-set topology at Dartmouth College as well as Real Analysis at St. Lawrence University. I have also tutored real analysis, measure theory, complex analysis, and functional analysis here on Wyzant. I am constantly studying and re-learning the subject.
Statistics

Statistics

Taught probability at Kansas State University. Worked as a data scientist using logistic-regression and other decision models.

Awesome! Incredible Enthusiasm.

Danny certainly has a broad knowledge of graduate level mathematics. I'm mostly interested in abstract algebra at this point. But, we discussed a lot of other topics outside of this area. He was able to point out and explain important results and milestones, even outside his speciality. I came away with a plan to move forward. Great enthusiasm! So nice to have found someone I can talk to about math!

So so amazing, simplifies hard concepts so well

So helpful. I’m taking College Matrix Theory and he simplifies everything so well and I am genuinely able to understand the concepts now. Such an amazing tutor, so grateful

Very good

Danny is very helpful and cares about you understanding the material. He was very knowledgeable and helped me pinpoint the areas that I was weak in. We studied complex analysis together.

Uncanny ability to transport you from abstract to concrete

Danny is well beyond the average good tutor here. Great use of the boards, no hesitation to spend extra time on a subject if needed, and extremely patient with folks who need a little more time and repetition to absorb a concept. I started working with him right after getting a 54 on an exam. In the subsequent weeks, I leveled up with his help and got a B in the course.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Danny helped to get my basics and also referred to me certain books. I think Danny has deep understanding of the real and functional analysis upto graduate level. This kind of clarity helped me to get more clarity on how I should to start thinking about my problems in exam
