I taught history for 30 years in an independent boarding school in Connecticut. I am retired now and I miss teaching history and interacting with students very much. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Smith College and and I received a MA in History from Indiana University. I taught World, European and US history. I also taught AP European history. As department chair, I was responsible for developing and implementing the history curriculum.

I have worked with Jill on a weekly basis for the past few months. Throughout our time, Jill has shown that she is an extremely qualified and talented tutor who will ensure that you do well in your class. My school is notorious for having one of the hardest AP Euro teachers there is - he helped to write the curriculum for the course - but with Jill’s help I am doing better in the class than I ever would have imagined. She helps me go through what I struggle the most with, multiple choice, and my scores have improved dramatically by working with her. She knows the course in and out and is able to answer any question I have, making sure that I know each concept in detail. Furthermore she also helps both in and outside of the tutoring sessions, helping to identify the best ways I can review and finding practice writing prompts I can try. I have tried many tutors on Wyzant but Jill is by far one of the best ones and I would have no hesitation to recommend her to anyone in need of an AP Euro or history tutor. Excellent European History Tutor
Ms. Freeland has helped me immensely in my AP European History class. Each topic she covers always matches my needs, whether looking at the big picture of the Renaissance or the details of the Reformation. Her tutoring has allowed me to preview concepts that I will be taught in class, giving me a jumpstart before I learn the content in school, and enabling me to understand each concept in greater depth. I have enjoyed taking tutoring lessons from Ms. Freeland, and will continue to do so!

Passionate and Knowledgeable Tutor!
Jill is an amazing tutor! She was a massive help in preparing me for my AP Euro assessments in senior year. Oftentimes, I would find myself overwhelmed by my schoolwork and by the volume and detail of the AP Euro curriculum (the textbook we used was very dense in detail and sometimes hard to follow). I could always count on Jill to go through a term sheet, a list of essential questions, or a time line, and help me parse the stuff I didn't understand. She approached the subject with a passion and a depth of knowledge that was contagious, and I ended up with perfect scores on my final three assessments! On top of that, she provided a ton of useful study materials, and always knew how to summarize the complex and abstract topics that I struggled with in clear and succinct ways - I cannot recommend her highly enough!

My daughter has been tutored by Jill for this past half year. Jill is always so thorough and patient and teaches European history with so much passion and clarity. She makes a very challenging subject so much more interesting and engaging. Excellent experience
Jill was a tremendous resource for our daughter's AP Euro exam prep. Jill beautifully illustrated overviews of the massive AP Euro content but also managed to drill down important details and specifics as well. She provided unique audio and visual resources to bring topics to light. Our daughter feels well prepared for the exam and much more at ease after working with Jill. Jill also was very flexible with our roving schedule and timely with updates and correspondence. We will be circling back for more AP tutoring next year!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor
My son likes European history so he took AP European history. He has a very easy teacher, but very few kids get 4 or 5 for AP exam in his school. This is why I am looking for a tutor to help my son. Jill has helping my son for a full academic year. She is very knowledgeable and patient. My son will take AP Euro test this Friday. I will definitely come back to report how he do his AP exam. Jill and my daughter worked on a DBQ about Imperialism. My daughter had been struggling with the content and assignment and was stressed. Jill was able to help my daughter break down the assignment in manageable chunks and helped her to get a solid grasp of the content. She came away from the session feeling so much more at ease.
