Hello, I’m Jacquelyn. I’ve been teaching, tutoring, and supporting students for over a decade. I’ve worked with learners ages 7–18, with most of my U.S. classroom experience in grades 5–8 and additional experience teaching grades 9–10 in Italy. My background includes literacy tutoring, English language instruction, academic coaching, SEL support, and work with students with ADHD and ASD, including serving as a private tutor for students with ASD during pandemic school closures.

One of my strongest areas is middle-school argumentative writing. I help students create strong outlines, develop debatable and defensible claims, choose relevant supporting evidence, and turn their ideas into clear, structured essays. I’ve also supported students with application essays for specialized programs, internships, and early college pathways. With two master’s degrees and experience writing a 75-page thesis, I enjoy helping older students strengthen academic writing.

While teaching in California, all of my 8th-grade students improved their attendance, GPA, and SBAC test scores. Across my work in California, New York, Colorado, and Italy, I’ve been exposed to a wide range of teaching styles and educational philosophies. This global experience allows me to adapt quickly, avoid rigid instructional approaches, and tailor each lesson to a student’s needs.

My style is warm, interactive, and focused on building confidence. I check for understanding frequently, break down complex tasks, and work intentionally on self-efficacy—especially at a time when turning to AI can feel easier than developing one’s own academic voice. I ensure progress is trackable with clear goals, measurable steps, and consistent feedback.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy weightlifting, baking, watching great films, volunteering as an EMS first responder, and helping injured animals. I love helping find ways to connect their learning to their personal interests and passions.

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I have over 15 years of experience supporting learners with ADHD in both classroom and one-on-one settings. My background includes literacy tutoring in college, a full year serving with City Year supporting a focus group of middle-school students with ADHD on improving grades, SBAC test performance, attendance, and confidence, and individualized academic coaching throughout the U.S. I also worked as a private instructor for a student with ASD/ADHD during pandemic school closures, providing structured daily lessons, executive-function coaching, and behavior-support strategies. My approach emphasizes breaking tasks into manageable steps, building self-efficacy, and using multi-sensory methods that keep students engaged without overwhelming them.
Anatomy

Anatomy

I’m an EMT and weightlifting coach who teaches anatomy through clear, real-world explanations. I help students understand how the body works—muscles, joints, organs, movement patterns, and physiological systems—using practical examples from emergency medicine and athletic performance. My sessions focus on simplifying complex concepts, improving retention, and building confidence for exams.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I’ve worked with autistic students across a range of ages, adapting instruction to their preferred communication styles, processing needs, and sensory profiles. I specialize in simplifying material, building routines, and teaching skills in small, achievable steps. I use a strengths-based approach that helps reduce frustration and increases independence. My goal is always to help students feel comfortable, motivated, and successful.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I have over a decade of experience supporting students in developing their creative writing skills, including narrative structure, character development, descriptive language, and voice. In my classroom and tutoring roles, I’ve helped middle- and high-school students transform their ideas into polished stories by guiding them through brainstorming, outlining, drafting, and revision. I specialize in teaching students how to expand sensory detail, deepen emotional impact, and build strong, coherent plotlines. Because I’ve written extensively myself—across academic, personal, and creative genres—I’m skilled at helping learners find their authentic voice and gain confidence as writers.
Debate

Debate

I competed on the debate team throughout high school and college, eventually serving as team captain. During that time, I received formal training in argumentation, rebuttal structure, evidence evaluation, and persuasive delivery. I now help students strengthen their debate skills by teaching them how to craft clear, defensible arguments and speak with confidence in front of an audience. Because debate skills transfer into writing, leadership, and everyday communication, I’m passionate about supporting students as they build abilities that benefit them far beyond competitions.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I specialize in helping struggling readers build confidence and foundational literacy skills using structured, evidence-based instruction. My experience includes supporting students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences through phonics, decoding, sight-word work, and comprehension practice. I take a patient, step-by-step approach that meets learners exactly where they are and steadily moves them forward. My sessions emphasize consistency, clarity, and encouragement so students finally feel able and successful.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have extensive experience supporting elementary learners with reading, writing, foundational grammar, and early study skills. My teaching style is warm, patient, and structured, ensuring concepts feel clear, manageable, and confidence-building. I break skills into small, attainable steps while incorporating students’ interests to make learning feel meaningful and engaging. My goal is to help young learners build strong academic habits and feel proud of their progress.
EMT/ NREMT

EMT/ NREMT

I passed the NREMT exam on my first attempt and have since become a registered, active EMT for my town, where I respond to emergency calls and continuously train with my department. While preparing for my certification, I developed strong test-taking strategies, efficient study methods, and clear ways of breaking down complex medical concepts into understandable pieces. Because I entered EMS without any prior medical background, I understand firsthand how overwhelming this material can feel, and I’m skilled at helping new learners build confidence step by step. My goal is to help future EMTs master both the knowledge and practical reasoning needed to succeed on the NREMT and in real-world emergency care.
English

English

I have over a decade of experience tutoring English, with a strong background in literacy instruction, reading comprehension, grammar support, and academic writing for grades 5–10. I taught English language learners in California, where my students showed measurable growth in GPA, standardized test scores, and overall confidence. I specialize in breaking down complex texts and writing tasks so students can understand structure, voice, and meaning while strengthening their analytical skills. I tailor each lesson to individual needs, ensuring clear skill progression, strong communication, and measurable academic growth.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have ample experience teaching and tutoring ESL students in the United States and abroad. I spent a full year with ESL students in Italy, and have worked with students of all ages across the United States. I've worked with students whose native languages are: Italian, Farsi, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, Korean, German, Vietnamese, and French. I always strive to learn about the student's native language and how the native language translates to English. It's important to me that I understand the student's individual goals and learning style. Learning a new language can be overwhelming and awkward (I've experienced it myself), but it should also be fun! Being a continuous student of foreign language myself, I continue to find new ways to make language classes more effective and engaging.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I am highly qualified to tutor Essay Writing due to more than a decade of direct instructional experience teaching academic writing to students in grades 5–10 in both the United States and Italy. I have formally taught argumentative, expository, and analytical writing in multiple classroom settings, including a year teaching middle-school English at a low-income school in California where all of my 8th-grade students improved their SBAC writing scores, GPAs, and overall academic performance. I specialize in helping students create strong outlines, develop clear and debatable claims, choose relevant supporting evidence, and revise their ideas into cohesive multi-paragraph essays. I have also guided students through personal statement and application-based writing for specialized programs, internships, and early college preparation. In my own academic career, I completed two master’s degrees, including a 75-page thesis, which strengthened my ability to teach higher-level writing skills such as organization, argument development, clarity, and voice. My approach emphasizes making writing manageable, structured, and confidence-building, and I ensure measurable progress through modeling, guided practice, and consistent feedback.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I have over a decade of experience helping students strengthen executive functioning skills such as organization, planning, task initiation, and time management. Much of my work has been with middle and high schoolers, including many students with ADHD, ASD, and processing challenges, where I provided individualized systems to help them manage assignments and build consistent study routines. I focus on helping students break large tasks into manageable steps, develop self-monitoring habits, and create trackable goals that improve academic confidence. My approach is warm, structured, and supportive, ensuring students build long-term skills they can rely on across all subjects.
Grammar

Grammar

I have always loved grammar. It can feel so daunting with all of the confusing rules and terms, but once you grasp it, it's fun and rewarding. Learning foreign languages, especially earning a Master's degree in Italian, helped me to better understand grammar and how to teach it. I've helped students understand: clauses, parts of speech, verb tense consistency, conditionals, punctuation, sentence structure and more. I understand that grammar can often leave students feeling embarrassed, confused and frustrated. My goal is to incorporate games, trivia, and other activities to make the learning process more fun than stressful. I don't only seek for you to better understand grammar, but to feel more confident and capable as a student.
Homeschool

Homeschool

During the pandemic, I worked as a private homeschool teacher for two families whose children had significant sensory challenges and were unable to attend traditional classrooms. I designed and delivered full academic curricula, adapted instruction to each child’s learning style, and maintained consistent communication with parents to support progress. Homeschooling allowed me to build meaningful one-on-one relationships, tailor lessons to individual strengths and needs, and scaffold learning materials in ways that are not always possible in a large classroom. I consistently ensured that students met or exceeded grade-level expectations through targeted instruction, continuous assessment, and personalized feedback.
Italian

Italian

After studying abroad in college, I started to understand the importance of language studies. I enjoyed my experience in Italy, but without speaking the language, I couldn't fully understand the culture. I've learned that a language is far more than words and the learning process needs to extend beyond workbooks and flashcards. Which is why I create engaging, immersive lessons that focus on exposing you to the language and culture through music, film clips, writings, and conversation topics. I create lessons that are personalized, engaging and goal-oriented. We will break down concepts you are struggling with and work through them in a more fun and understandable way, whether your goal is to pass a grammar exam, or be able to have basic conversations on your upcoming trip to Italy.
Linguistics

Linguistics

I offer support in introductory and intermediate linguistics, including syntax, morphology, phonology, semantics, pragmatics, and language acquisition. My background includes graduate-level study in Italian language and culture, TESOL training, and extensive experience teaching English and Italian across multiple academic settings. I help students break down complex linguistic concepts, analyze language structure, and apply theories to real examples. My sessions are clear, organized, and designed to help you understand material deeply rather than memorize terms in isolation.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have strong experience assisting students with personal statements for college, graduate school, and competitive program applications. My background in writing instruction, essay coaching, and academic support allows me to guide students through every stage of the process—from brainstorming to final edits. I help students strengthen structure, clarity, voice, and flow while ensuring their essays meet word limits and program requirements. I focus on helping students present their experiences and goals in a compelling, authentic way. My goal is always to help students feel confident in their writing and produce polished, powerful personal statements that are authentic to their voice.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I provide detailed, precise proofreading for academic essays, personal statements, creative writing, and professional documents. With dual master’s degrees and years of experience supporting students with writing across subjects, I help writers clarify their ideas, correct mechanical errors, and strengthen overall flow. I focus on grammar, tone, structure, and readability while maintaining the author’s original voice. My goal is to help students produce polished, confident writing through clear corrections and actionable feedback.
Psychology

Psychology

I hold a B.S. in Family Studies, a program that included extensive psychology coursework in areas such as human development, cognition, behavior, and social dynamics. My academic background allows me to break down complex psychological theories into clear, relatable concepts. I help students strengthen their understanding of research methods, core theories, case studies, and applied practice. My goal is to build confidence by making psychology both approachable and engaging.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I’ve taken public speaking courses in both undergraduate and graduate school, and they’ve always been my strongest area. I’ve presented in multiple languages while studying abroad and have gained confidence through teaching, interning, and facilitating leadership seminars for diverse groups. I understand how overwhelming public speaking can feel, so I focus on simple, practical techniques that build confidence quickly. My goal is to help you speak clearly, authentically, and with ease in any setting.
Reading

Reading

I help students in grades 3–10 strengthen reading comprehension, fluency, and confidence by teaching them how to interact meaningfully with texts. My approach includes guided reading, active annotation strategies, and targeted practice in identifying main ideas, supporting details, tone, and author’s purpose. I tailor every session to the student’s reading level and interests so the work feels relevant and manageable. Students learn clear strategies they can apply independently, and progress is always measurable over time.
Social Studies

Social Studies

With two graduate degrees and a strong background in teaching reading and writing, I help students excel in Social Studies by strengthening the skills that matter most—comprehension, critical thinking, and analytical writing. I guide learners in breaking down complex texts, understanding historical context, and crafting organized, evidence-based responses. I’ve supported a wide range of grade levels, and my sessions emphasize clarity, confidence, and step-by-step skill-building.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have extensive experience supporting students with a range of learning, behavioral, and developmental needs, including ADHD, ASD, language-based learning challenges, and emotional/behavioral disorders. I’ve worked in therapeutic classrooms, residential programs, and 1:1 academic settings, helping students build confidence, self-advocacy skills, and strong learning routines. My approach is patient, structured, and highly individualized, ensuring lessons are broken down into manageable steps with clear, trackable progress. I focus on helping students feel capable, supported, and successful in both academic tasks and daily executive-function demands.
Spelling

Spelling

I help students strengthen spelling skills through patterns, word families, phonics reinforcement, and memory-based strategies that actually stick. I’ve worked with learners in grades 3–10, including those with ADHD, ASD, and language-based learning differences who need structured, supportive spelling intervention. My approach focuses on confidence-building, repeated practice, and clear progress tracking so students feel successful and parents can easily see improvement. I also tailor spelling lists and activities to each student’s interests so learning is more engaging and enjoyable.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I help students build strong study habits through clear organization, time-management strategies, and routines that actually work for them. With experience supporting grades 5–10 across multiple school settings, I teach students how to plan ahead, break down large assignments, prioritize tasks, and stay focused. I make progress trackable by setting small, realistic goals and regularly reviewing what’s working and what needs adjustment. My goal is to help students feel confident, capable, and in control of their academic responsibilities.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I have extensive academic writing experience, including completing two master’s degrees and producing a 75-page thesis in Italian, which I later translated into English. Through this work, I developed a deep understanding of how to conduct effective thesis research, structure long-form academic writing, and meet rigorous scholarly guidelines. I help students learn how to organize arguments, streamline their writing process, and refine citations so their thesis maintains a clear, credible, and academically appropriate voice. My background allows me to guide students at every stage—from brainstorming to final editing—with clarity and confidence.
TOEFL

TOEFL

Preparing for the TOEFL can feel overwhelming, but I help students break it down into clear, manageable steps. I support learners with all four sections: reading strategies, listening comprehension, structured speaking responses, and well-organized writing tasks. I teach students how to build strong academic vocabulary, respond confidently to prompts, and use reliable templates that showcase their English skills. My approach is structured, encouraging, and focused on measurable progress.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I help students strengthen their vocabulary for reading comprehension, academic writing, speaking, and standardized tests. With years of experience teaching English and ESL to grades 5–10 in the U.S. and Italy, I break down new words using clear explanations, context clues, morphology, and real-world examples. I tailor each lesson to the student’s learning style so new vocabulary becomes meaningful, memorable, and easy to apply. My goal is to build confidence, expand expressive language, and help every learner communicate with clarity and precision.
Writing

Writing

Writing has unwaveringly been my favorite subject. I have written countless essays for both college and graduate school, including a 75-page thesis essay for my first master's degree. I enjoy working with students on all different types of writing, from finding their voice in creative writing, to correctly citing evidence in argumentative and persuasive essays. I am strong at helping students refine essays with correct grammar and stylistics. My goal is to make writing fun and help you find your own unique voice through your writing. If it feels overwhelming, all we have to do is break it down piece by piece and start by focusing on clear outlines.
