Hello, my name is Morike! I graduated from Rice University in 2024, where I studied Neuroscience, Medical Humanities, and Spanish. Upon graduation, I completed a malaria research fellowship in Lagos, Nigeria. I am currently a medical student at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
During my undergraduate experience, I served as a mentor for high schoolers and underclassmen, providing guidance through the different coursework and application processes. My primary tutoring experience has been through English as a second language, where I tutored Spanish-speaking and African immigrants weekly, starting back in high school! I continued this while studying abroad, tutoring Ukrainian refugee families in Spain. I also have experience providing swimming lessons, which I did alongside competitive swimming for over ten years.
Along with subject coaching and application services, I am pleased to offer Executive Function (EF) along with all of my tutoring. EF is a set of mental skills that help students plan, organize, and complete tasks effectively. Weak EF can easily undermine student progress, and I look forward to developing this with students! I am passionate about making an impact on others’ wellbeing, and academic coaching is an opportunity for this. I prioritize being adaptable to meet students where they are, as well as determining what works best for them. Furthermore, I utilize effective, research-backed methods to cater to each student.
