🎓 My Background

I earned my B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Psychology from the University of Maryland. I’ve served as a substitute teacher in Virginia and Maryland, teaching students across all grade levels in subjects such as math, writing, and computer skills. I’ve also volunteered teaching computer literacy to adults and GED students.

As a long-time member and past president of Toastmasters International, I’ve coached individuals in public speaking, leadership, and communication — skills that translate directly into helping students express ideas clearly and confidently.

💡 Teaching Philosophy

I adapt my lessons to fit how each student learns best — whether they need step-by-step guidance, hands-on activities, or creative problem-solving. My goal is to make learning enjoyable, meaningful, and empowering so students build confidence inside and outside the classroom.

Due to frequent lesson requests, please allow up to 48 hours for scheduling.
A 30-minute minimum charge applies for missed or shortened lessons.

I have over 20 years as a software engineer and have a B.S. in Computer Science. My experiences include both mainframe as well as the PC, including multiple operating system: Windows, Linux, and the Mac. Most of the software I have developed has been with database systems and websites. I like to challenge my student to learn hands-on. I offer computer programming training online or in person. Even though I am a computer geek, I love interfacing with people and have a passion for teaching and mentoring others.

Throughout my life as a student, mathematics was my best subject. I graduated from the university with a Computer Science degree that emphasized mathematics where Discrete Math was one of my required courses.

I love working with Elementary school students. I worked as a substitute teacher for Fairfax County Schools (Virginia) years 2001 - 2004 and then with Anne Arundel County (Maryland) years 2004 - 2012. I mostly worked with students of grades 2 through 6. I have taught all subjects as a classroom substitute teacher. In high school, I was voted most studious student by my peers. Personally, I was on the honor roll for several years during my high school years.

Throughout my life as a student, mathematics was my best subject. I graduated from the university with a Computer Science degree that emphasized mathematics. As a freshman in college, I took a class in Finite Math. Math has been my number one tutoring interest.

I am a software engineer. I currently work as web developer position for the Univ. of Maryland, programming with Javascript and Jquery. I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Overall, I have more than 10 years experience in web development.

As a software engineer, I have extensive experience in Oracle. I have worked with various clients developing Website that access Oracle databases on the back-end. I have written advance SQL scripts to query the Oracle database. My experience expands more that 15 years of building database structured systems and writing software for those systems. I have more than 20 years of experience in Software Engineering and am currently a Web Developer for the University of Maryland. I have about five years of experience with the PHP development language. I am certified in PHP by Brainbench, May 2008. I run a part-time software tutoring and technology company.

I am an active member of Toastmasters, a public speaking and leadership organization. I joined Toastmasters back in 1990. Since that time, I have served as Club President (two consecutive terms), Vice President of Education, and various other roles in my club. I have achieved the Competent Toastmaster level by giving motivational speeches. I have received rewards for Best Humorous Speech and Best Evaluator in various contests.

I have 9 years of SAS Programming and Data Analysis Experience, both on the Mainframe as well as the PC. I have mentored junior level developers on how to utilize SAS for handling large volumes of Healthcare Data. My experience includes database import/export and SQL queries.
