Certified English Educator, Instructional Writing and Reading Coach

I have over 10 years experience in private and public education, teaching Grades 6-12 and collegiate ages. Additionally, I have expertise in mentoring and instructionally coaching novice teachers at the beginning of their careers. As a state-certified educator, I first became inspired to pursue teaching through my own education, love for reading, and passion for writing. I have extensive knowledge in supporting students with learning differences, diverse learners, or those who struggle with writing and reading challenges in their work.

After graduating with a Bachelors in English and Creative Writing from Dickinson College, I obtained my Masters in Secondary Education from Johns Hopkins University. From there, I taught Middle and High School English at The Field School in Washington, DC. At that time, I partnered to create a library to support students through targeted differentiation collected from teachers' best practices in the field. Since moving to Virginia, I have continued to teach 11th Grade English at Heritage High School in Newport News, VA. Here, I have led district-wide professional training for creating a positive classroom climate and social-emotionally safe spaces.

I am most excited in my teaching when I can support students finding their own voice in writing, advance their critical reading skills and strengths, and form perspectives grounded in sound research and thought. Through high-impact strategies and an investment in focused, high-level engagement, I seek to draw students into the joy of learning using differentiation, Universal Design for Learning, and individualized writing instruction. I am currently obtaining additional training and education through Reading Specialist Endorsement at University of Virginia Department of Education.
