Bio

I love teaching and I love singing! I'm a listener, and love bringing a fun and creative tone to my lessons while teaching the highest level of healthy technique and style. My students are usually focused on a goal: singing for fun or meditative purposes, going for auditions or performances, and recording and touring at a professional level. I love teaching and I love singing! I'm a listener, and love bringing a fun and creative tone to my lessons while teaching the highest level of healthy technique and style. My students are usually focused on a goal: singing for fun or meditative purposes, going for auditions or performances, and recording and touring at a professional level. They've appeared on multiple stages around the world, including as a finalist on The Voice (Ireland). I taught voice and performance for several years at a university in Europe, as well as in workshops with a lot of different community organisations.

I've studied the following voice and movement practices, too: Alexander Technique, Estill Voice Training, Speech Level Singing, Pop Vocals, Experimental Voice, Trigger Point Therapy, Yoga, Pilates, Contemporary Dance.

Sight Singing

Sight Singing

I teach sight singing using basic exercises referring to the Solfege system of associating notes to sound. I have been teaching sight singing for 10 years to students of all ages. I use both material from sight singing books and also from British music examination systems. Usually I work at the student's level to teach both association of note with Solfege sound and also on recognizing note values.
Songwriting

Songwriting

My background is in writing, singing, and playing guitar, having studied composition at the Open University in the UK and currently studying at Mills College in Oakland. I work with the student on pieces they may be writing, giving them help with chord and word choices. In addition, I teach writing exercises and chord progressions. For example, I may ask the student to try their phrases over different progressions by singing the notes of the chord.

I have been teaching singing for 10 years in one-to-one and group settings, having been a voice and performance instructor both privately and at Queen's University Belfast (UK), the Institute of Contemporary Music, and the Oh Yeah Music Centre. I studied voice through the British Rockschool Exam series, Estill Voice Training, and with Christina Shewell, a speech therapist and author. I work with students at any level to understand good breath control, opening the throat, and good abdominal support. We also work on warm ups, voice and physical exercises, voice care, and song interpretation depending upon a student's level.
